So the wife and I will be in in the Austin-SA area in November, for a week off, visit the kid, hit wurstfest, etc. I have a Fri and Sat planned for Austin, and want some current views on a kick *** hotel.

Maybe 15 years ago we stayed at the Driskell, and that was great. However, the interest to be on 6th street is much less these days, though, it wouldn't be a show stopper.

A couple hundred a night would be an approximate budget.

I was impressed with the Intercontinental (aka Stephen F. Austin) given that it is significantly less than the Four Seasons or Driskill.

We stayed there the weekend of the Austin Marathon.

Service is probably a notch below.....but the rooms were spotless, large and very well appointed --- comfortable/new beds, quality sheets and oversized pillows.

Well, we're going with the Stephen F. Didn't want to fork over for the Four Seasons, and the price and ammenities were a bit better than the Mansion. Plus I like the look of the place. Been to the Driskell, loved it, but looking to check out something different.

The San Jose looks very interesting, and I'll check it out some other time.

Turns out Okie St. is in town that weekend. Nice. Maybe we'll hike down to the tailgate for a free brew.

Thanks very much for the suggestions.

We used to stay at the Stephen F. when we lived in Houston and would come in for games or whatever. We could often get incredible internet rates -- sometimes on suites (~$125) -- and after we had stayed there a few times, they began automatically upgrading us when available.

Maybe we can meet at the tailgate and I can break one over your head.

Or you can update me on life in heaven, e.g. Killeen.
