Best Hotel Pool in SA?

i realize there is a "best SA hotel" thread on this board but my question is a bit different and i didnt want to jack up that thread.

i'll be at a week long conference in SA in early august; its on the riverwalk. i'll be solo, so amenities in the room are not that high of a priority other than wireless and a good bed.

i'll be done by early to mid-afternoon each day, so i plan on spending a good amount of time at the pool each day reading, listening to music, drinking adult beverages, and looking at the scenery until its time to head out for dinner.

last year for the conference i stayed at the contessa, which is a great hotel, but the pool is on the roof, requiring multiple trips up and down in the elevator to get to the bar in the lobby 12 floors down, and its small. in 4 days there was only one other person at the pool.

whats the best pool/bar combo in SA?

its all paid for by my firm, so cost is not really an issue.

La Cantera is the ****.

There's nothing really fancy about the Menger's pool, but it's on the ground and really convenient to your room, and the Menger is a cool hotel as well.

just get a tube and a cooler and float the river

The pool at The Menger is nice.

It's a quiet place.

I stay there once a year.

Their small hotel bar is just across a hall from the pool, both at ground level.

It's not a real likely spot to meet new people, unless they are staying there too and wander in.

For example, I went in at halftime to see if any friendly folks were watching a Spurs' playoff game and the TV wasn't even turned on, so I just went back and watched it finish in my room.

The pool is large enough for a little swimming and is landscaped nicely, but I've never seen many people using it.

That's usually good for me, but maybe not for you if you're seeking action.

There's a hot tub and lots of deck space with lounge chairs and tables.

I usually just take my own cooler of beer and fill up with ice from one of their machines, sit and read or listen to my IPOD.

There's a convenience store that sells beer and chips, etc. right next to the hotel.

It's on the side that's opposite the Alamo, backed up against the Rivercrest Mall .

The convenience store's open until midnight, but the pool closes at least by ten.

I've sat there, drank beer and socialized long after the pool was closed, however.

pretty much all the downtown hotels will have their pools on the roof. i'd check out the websites of the emily morgan, valencia, westin, la mansion, watermark, havana inn, etc. ive been to all their bars and restaraunts, but cant speak for the pools. hopefully their websites have pool pics.
