Best food for camping

what type of camping are you doing? This will make a huge difference in recomendations? Tent camping at a site? Camper camping? Backpacking?

There is nothing better than breakfast coffee, eggs, bacon, and skillet toast cooked on a Coleman stove while camping.

One of my favorite one dish meals is potatoes, smoked sausage and green beans. Potatoes are cubed and pan fried in as little grease as possible. Add the sliced smoked sausage and drained canned green beans to the almost fully cooked potatoes. Add a little water to steam the sausage. The sausage flavors the potatoes and green beans and is a fairly fast one dish meal.

Be sure and check to see if the area you are going to camp has a burn ban in effect. Every county in my area has a burn ban right now that makes a campfire illegal. S'mores cooked over the flame of a Coleman stove are still just as good as ones cooked over a campfire.

S'mores, obviously. Google "girl scout camp recipes" and you'll get plenty of ideas that have proven popular with girls.

Honestly, I have always loved ranch style beans heated in the can when camping. It isn't even something you have to cook. They are good for just about every meal. I don't know if you have had ranch style beans with eggs, but they are great.
Also, I don't know if you know the recipe that is butter, canned peaches, and a box of yellow cake mix. You put have the cake mix in a dutch over, then the large can of peaches, the the other half of the mix, then pour a melted stick of butter over it all.... Makes a GREAT cobbler-esque dessert that is pretty easy to do!

Hamburger, bacon, onion sliced potatos and sliced carrots.

Put the burger in a foil pouch, season, top with onion, then carrot, then potato, then bacon and season some more. Wrap up the pouch 2 or three times so the grease doesn't leak out and catch on fire. Then throw them on some hot coals and cook about 20 minutes. The kids can make their own.

hot dogs are a good child pleaser while camping. i would do hamburgers one night. maybe steaks fajitas, or pre-marinated chicken thighs for third. i believe when ur camping u should grill as much as possible. i try not to use coleman stove except for bfast and some side dishes. mac and cheese is easy and popular with kids.

Foil packs are always fun, and the kids get to participate.

My favorite is to get some hamburger meat, potatoes, carrots, onion, bell peppers, salt & pepper. Cut the veggies REAL thin.

Get some Super Strength foil....not "heavy duty", but "Super Strength. Tear off sheets about 18-20 inches long.

Fold each sheet in half, and then carefully fold in each side in small, straight creases (we're creating a pocket here), and do the same on the bottom. About 8 creases on each side and bottom.

Then throw whichever of the ingredients they want into the pocket, and seal the top the same way.

Then you just set the pockets upright in a single-layer charcoal fire for about 25-30 minutes. They should swell up if the sides, top and bottom are sealed property.

Tacos in a bag. Take the small bags of doritoes and crunch them up. Open up the bag and spoon in seasoned ground beef, cheddar cheese and all your favorite taco toppings. Eat straight out of the bag.

Get some canned biscuits, stretch them out and wrap them around a green mesquite stick(dough should look like a peppermint stick when you get them on the stick), roll them in cinnamon and sugar, toast them over the open flame till they get brown, mighty tasty and easy.

As a kid, there was nothing better than cooking hot dogs on a stick over a campfire, followed by marshmallows cooked the same way. Kids love it.
Now, convenience is the key, except maybe one prepared meal-the fajitas would be a good idea, or chili if you are really around the cooking pot for long enough. Not that great for kids, though.

Egg in a Hole aka Eagle in the Nest is a old camp classic that seems to be well received by each new generation of kids. Just get a slice of bread and cut a hole out of the center with a biscuit cutter or improvise with whatever (a small green chiles can works great) is available. Butter one side or both if you prefer. Put the bread butter side down in a medium hot skillet and crack an egg into the hole. Lift up the edges of the bread to allow the egg whites to seep underneath the bread. You can break the yolk or pour seasoned & scrambled egg into the hole if you like. Season as desired. Flip it once when the bottom browns and add a slice of cheese on top. Continue to cook until the bottom browns and the cheese melts. Variations include adding cooked bacon, sausage, ham, peppers, etc under the slice of cheese. A well seasoned cast iron or non-stick skillet works best.

When we were camping, my dad used to cook bacon. Then he would roll up hungry jack biscuits into little balls and cook them in the bacon grease. Good and good for you.

2-4 slices of bacon cut crosswise into 1-inch pieces
1/2 to 1 onion, chopped
Big or huge can of pork and beans
pkg of wieners, cut into 1-inch pieces

Fry bacon pieces, remove from drippings. Pour off excess bacon drippings. Saute onions until transparent. Add beans, bacon and wiener pieces. May be eaten immediately, but better if cooked for at least 30 min.

Mmmmm mmmm good!
