Best Fajitas in Austin?

My favorite Tex-Mex dish is fajitas. I have often been disappointed after going to recommended places around town and trying hole in the wall places on S. 1st. Places like Maudies are good for enchiladas but I haven't found a place like El Tiempo in Houston that serves tender, juicy fajitas. No one beats Pappasito's in Austin for having the most tender, juicy fajitas. I just want alternatives.

I would love to know of even a good taco stand to go to. Some of the best fajitas tacos were at the taco stand next to Papagayos in BoysTown. Those fajitas were heaven.

I knew I would get a knee jerk "all chains suck response". I don't know how anyone can say that Pappasito's fajitas suck. It is impossible. They are tender, juicy and have amazing flavor. You can rag on them for being expensive, a chain, small portions, etc. but their quality is undisputed. That is why they are so popular.

I just wanted some alternatives to get high quality fajitas

never had a problem with "el sol y la luna" on congress and gueros. those are like the only mexcian places i eat.

I am usually of the "chain restraunts suck" crowd when it comes to Mexican food, but we went to a rehearsal dinner at the Pappasito's in Austin and the fajitas were great. I am not sure that I have found better in Austin. Just don't eat their salsa, if that is what you want to call it.

HEB preseasoned Fajitas cooked on your own grill. Nothing comes close except for the ones at Pappasitos, but when you throw in the value quotient, it's HEB in a landslide.

Casa Garcia's on South Lamar provides some rather tasty fajitas and a nice atmosphere inside. You may want to check it out.

Puddle: I actually live in South Austin (off S. Congress actually) so the places you listed are some of the places that I have been to. I went to Polvo's a couple of nights ago and I thought their food was good. I liked their queso with taco meat and I thought they had pretty good fajitas. They were pretty unique tasting.

Central Market's marinated fajitas are awesome and are some of my favorite as well. They are great for tailgating and Central Market has excellent guacamole and salsa to go along with it.

BTW there is an Office Depot not Office Max at Lamar and Oltorf. Office Depot is leagues better than Office Max.

Pennhorn...I'll have to agree with you on the tacos outside of Papagayos in boystown. That is some good ****. I need to bring one of those hombres across and set up shop on 6th street each weekend....but the environment just wouldn't be the same. Nothing like eating tacos in boystown highly intoxicated with stinky fingers and hands.

if you're in or near SoAus and you've never been to Maria's just north of that crappy Matt's, then you're doing yourself a major disservice.

Doesn't Taco Deli have fajitas? That place is well worth a try if you haven't been there.

I had Papasito's fajitas for lunch (work brought them in, I don't go there). They are fine but nothing to get too excited about. They just cut the chicken after grilling it rather than before and they don't overcook the beef like most places do--that way it isn't all dried so you get your juicy fajita meat. That is how I do them at home--of course I like to think my marinade is far superior.

Speaking of HEB. Has anyone gotten the fakitas from the stand outside of the HEB on 41st from the mexican lady? Those ******* are outstanding! I haven't tried the sausage wraps though.

Margaritas off of Burnet has good chicken fajitas, as does Ranas y Iguanas and several other small Mexican places in north/central Austin. Now here is what I hate about any place that serves fajitas, the damn condiment bowls. I run out of graded cheese after my first ******* taco! I can't stand the places that skimp on cheese, guacamole, and sour cream. They give you all the ******* lettuce in the world, but are some tight wad mothers when it comes to the cheese and the other good stuff. They bring out this bowl that looks full of cheese, but a ha, it's really fully of god damn lettuce with some cheese put on top! I sound like a raving lunatic, but damn, I have to have some cheese with my fajitas.

Papasittos fajitas are tasty, but their salsa tastes like warm throw up, and I'm not trying to be funny when I say that. I can't even stand to smell that crap! They should be embarrased to sell that to the public.

I am with you on the condiment bowl. Never enough cheese, guac, or sour cream. There are some places in town that know whats up, but most just offer a small dollop. What is up with everyone only serving 3 tortillas also. That seems to be the standard tortilla count in the industry. I am always having to ask for one more.

Enchiladas Y Mas is pretty good - love the Migas there.

Trudy's has pretty good fajitas (along with some other good items such as the Chicken Chipotle, Poqiuto Flaquities and Quesadillas).

Manuel's has good enchiladas.

Pappasitos has very good fajitas (love that garlic sauce) although I would probably go with Trudy's overall.

Just had the fajitas at Encilladas Y Mas last week and they were great. Lots of big cuts of meat and lots of condiments. Mmmm!

I'm very partial to Jardin Corona's in Cedar Park.

Not the one on Pond Springs though (damn stingy with their food)

However, the one in Cedar Park always has good salsa and give you more food than any other Tex-Mex place I have ever been for the money. Quality is very good as well.
