Best doctor in Austin if you pay out of pocket

Have one of those uber-high-deductible plans just for emergency, and all I need to go is get an old perscription redone b/c I'm out of refills and my sinses are now being obliterated (my old doctor I could just call up and say I needed more b/c she already knew I needed to take thestuff year round, but she's not in Texas any more). So far it looks like I'm going to get charged out the arse for this, but there's gotta be somebody out there whose different, right? I know there are doctors who love the lack of paperwork associated with non-insurance-users, but even google search isn't turning up much of that in Austin.

I've been seeing Neal Johnson at Duval & Jollyville for years and he's a great doc. Saw him for a while when he wasn't on our insurance plan, so you may have some luck.

You mean doctors in Austin don't take cash? That's weird. Find a family practice doc that has a decent charge and ask what the "prompt pay" discount is. They can't use "cash discount" because the government says that's illegal but it's basically the same thing.

The first visit will be more expensive as a new patient than a follow-up visit. If you don't need lab or other work-up you can expect to pay 55-75 for an initial problem focused visit with a prompt pay discount.

Yes, just find a reasonable family doctor and he or she will probably give you a script with monthly refills good for at least 6 months, maybe a year. Most will want to see you at least once a year to continue refilling the prescription.

Thanks, Newdoc, I didn't know about that. It's not that people won't take it, it's just that everything I see assumes right off the bat that you're paying through insurance and it was annoying to wade through.
