If I'm ever feeling I need to let the tears fall, but I'm just not at the place where they flow freely, I just grab me a cold brew, think of that special gal that got away, and click on this YouTube link...then the waterfall begins: The Link
There's a tear in my beer
'cause I'm cryin' for you,dear
you are on my lonely mind.
Into these last nine beers
I have shed a million tears.
You are on my lonely mind
I'm gonna keep drinkin'
until I'm petrified.
And then maybe these tears
will leave my eyes.
There's a tear in my beer
cause I'm crying' for you dear
You are on my lonely mind.
Not a big country fan, but I like this, although musically I actually prefer the Vertical Horizon original. I suppose this one is a little more heart wrenching, because Allan covered it not long after his wife committed suicide.
When I was in advanced training in the Army, there was an old sergeant assigned to my company, who was apparently just biding his time until he could retire. He never did anything even remotely connected to our training, and company officers just looked the other way.
He always wore dark sunglasses, and he went out every night and got drunk, stumbling back after midnight, usually crying, and always singing this Dean Martin song.
And, those great Gary Stewart songs and a cooler full of beer will get you through many bad times. I can attest to that. There may be no greater late night tailgating music.
For all you old Austinities, it don't get no sadder than this:
The night is bitter, the stars have lost their glitter
The winds grow colder, suddenly you're a lot older
And all because of a gal who got away
No more her eager call, the writing is on the wall
All those dreams you dreamed, they have all gone astray
The gal who won you, she's run off and undone you
That great beginning has seen the final inning
I don't know what happened, its all a crazy game
