best conference this year?

A little interesting....

This has no real meaning, but of the conferences with more than one team, the Big 12 was 12-5 for the tourny. Winning 71%, and the Champ only had losses to Big 12 teams. No other conference with multiple teams was higher than 60%

Southern (Davidson was 3-1, 75%) and CUSA (Memphis was 5-1, 83%) were the only Conferences with higher winning percentages.

Top heavy conference in the end, as well as thought of in the beginning. Most people thought KU, UT, and aggy had teams to make deep runs. I thought KSU had a chance to be up there, too, but didn't see any of the other teams as real threats.

Big 12 wound up with the champion and as the only conference with 2 teams in the Elite 8. Ags took UCLA to the wire, succumbing late to their insistence on taking the ball in to have it smacked back at them, foul or no foul.

So, maybe next year, the Big 12 gets included in any poll asking which is the strongest conference.

Edit:

KU has a great class coming in, so they should be tough come February, even if Rush, Chalmers, and Arthur all go. IT is being reported that Rush has already decided to go early. No surprise there.

I think the big 12 has the best conference, but I will settle for being considered a serious basketball conference. Big 12 gets little to no respect in b-ball, so I am happy just to be included in the discussion.

The Big 12's Record against the other major conferences this year (2007 -2008) were...Pac 10 - Regular (9-7), Post (2-1), Overall (11-8)ACC - (3-0), (2-0), (5-0)
Big East - (4-3), (1-1), (5-4)

SEC - (6-4), (0-1), (6-5)

Big 10 - (4-7), (0-2), (4-9)

The Big 12 had winning records against all the major conferences except the Big 10 (heavy dose of Wisc, Mich St, Purdue). Against the three best conferences (Pac-10, ACC and Big East) the Big 12 went 21-12.

Add in a national title (Kansas) and the only conference with two teams in the Elite 8 and you've got a pretty good argument for best conference this year.

I said it all season long and I'm still saying it now, the Big XII was hands down the best conference in the country this year. Only the Big East even had an argument due to their depth. The Pac-10 wasn't even in the picture, regardless of what the media wants you to believe.
