Best Barber Shop in Austin?

Fairly new to town and lookin' to lower my ears a little. Looking for old school, sit down and get a straight razor shave, talk about rebuilt transmissions and football with a bunch of guys. Suggestions? FYI, my brother told me to go to Tarrytown barber shop and I walk in and it was full of women barbers. That's not the kind of barber shop I am talking about! Come to think of it, on of those women was kind of like a man though.

Goodall-Wooten, on the drag.

Wait for Cisco, the black barber in there. Even if the ait is long and another barber is available when it's your turn, just say "Waiting for Cisco". They won't get mad. I really miss getting haircuts in Austin.

go to the wooten, grab a coke from the fridge and a playboy from the stack, and wait for ralph. watch the hot *** walk by and wish that a haircut took a lot longer.

Goodall-Wooten is the way to go.

If you don't have time, and want an old guy barber shop, Gaitan's Barber Shop in Hyde Park is also pretty good--but I haven't been in Austin in a few years, so hopefully he hasn't hung em up yet.

It's the Wooten Barber Shop. No "Goodall".

James is the best barber, but requires an appointment. Stay away from Don. He's an angry, fat, bearded man and will take it out on your head.

Don's definitely hit or miss.

If he's in a good mood, he'll take the time and give you a good cut. But if he isn't, watch out.

I agree on Jim, Cisco & Ralph. Can't go wrong there, really.

I wish my name was Cisco. That would be cool but I could not pull it off. So Biff it is.

Gaitan's Barber Shop at 43rd and Duval behind Hyde Park Bar and Grill. Ask for Phyllis. Yes, it's a woman in a real old school barber shop with the big chairs, etc. She's been cutting my hair since I was in college (10years).

Barber Cuts in Cedar Park. "Chuck" is the owner, he's Navy, was chief barber at Sub Base San Diego. Cool old guy. Last weekend sat next to the brother of the skipper of the Nimitz who was getting a trim from Chuck. Good prices too.

I actually went to Chuck in Cedar Park a few weeks ago.

I agree with the assessment - cool guy, did a good job.

A few doors to the R of Fiesta on 38th & Lamar. See Esther's on the Sportclips thread.

Sportsman USED to be the place you are looking for -- not anymore. I went there for 15 years, but in the last year, have started going to Pete's Flat Top Shop on Burnet just N. of Koenig.

It's mighty solid.

Avenue Barbershop on S. Congress. They recently changed ownership. I think the guy that owns the Continental Club is a part-owner so it's got the rockabilly feel to it. Prices went up but not any more than the Tarrytown barbershop. Guys cut your hair. They even have a website:
The Link

What about that barber shop at Hancock? They're pretty cool, old school. But the barber of my choice - he ALWAYS cuts my hair right and even shaves the residue with a straight razor - works right there off 620 and 35 at the Cost Cutters. He's awesome. His name is Randy - definitely check him out.

Ahh.....the Woo Do.

Louis was the master.

And the way he ran that vibrating massager down the back of your neck.........aaahhhhhhhh........that's the way Louis.......a little more to the left.......yeeeaaaahhhh..........

Well, Woo won. I have to admit, I headed to Pete's 1st but they are closed on Mon and Tues. So I headed down to campus and it was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the help guys.
