Best at Texas

Kinda of boring just now with school still to start.I have listed my top ten players at UT below. I haven’t looked at stats, etc. just listed who I think are the best as I recall them. Kinda of surprised that they seem be from two main groups for the most part-the national championship team and the 2003 Final Four team. I know that there are a lot of other players that others will think belong among the best that have played for UT.
first team:

Clarissa Davis
Annette Smith
Kamie Ethridge
Andrea Lloyd
Edwina Brown

second team:

Kala Bowers
Heather Schreiber
Stacy Stephens
Jamie Carey
Vicki Hall

I think I would have to find room for Cinietra Henderson, Edna Campbell, Beverly Williams, Yolanda Wimbish, Fran Harris, and Tiffany Jackson.

A player I would find room for is Linda Andrews Waggoner. She was the star of the early great Longhorn teams of the late 70's, and would hold several more records if they had had the 3 point shot then.

And I would not leave Tiffany off.

Last post continued. There is no way that Tiffany is not a better player than Kala and arguably several others on this list. I mean, the steals a lone, not to mention a whole lot of offense. I would replace Kala and Vicki Hall with Tiff and Linda Waggoner. Linda had a basketball I.Q. off the map (with her mom one of the greatest high school coaches of all time), such a pure shot, and the quickest hands you ever saw.

It does hurt to leave Bev Williams and Hattie Browning off the list. Edna was during a time I wasn't that tuned in. I know she was a great pro, but was she at a top level when she was here? To me, Wimbish, Henderson, and even Harris would be a little below this top ten level.

We have had the opportunity to watch a lot of great players at the University, haven't we?

Cinietra Henderson:

1,983 career points (#4 all-time)
16.1 avg ppg (#4 all-time)
.591 field goal percentage (#2 all-time)

TXSNOS,

I see your point about Cenietra. I think she was during my tuned out period. Where do you get these historical stats?

Most improved: Maybe Edwina? Wasn't her learning curve pretty spectacular from freshman to senior?

I would think that the Stephens girl deserves to be on the first team. Hard to argue agianst her stats and then how she revieved the program would be another good argument. And I like that Kala is on the team instead of the "all talented one".She had all the talent in the world and each year the team got worse. But "the talent" did have some good individual numbers.

I agree about Edwina probably being the most improved. I would put Angela Jackson at #2, and maybe Fey Meeks (who is now a doctor by the way) at #3.

I got my stats for Cinietra Henderson from the media guide.

I know that Edna and Edwina are two different players. Why did you think I didn't? Not that it's important, but I was not in Austin at the time of Edna's college career and didn't know much about her game until I saw her in the WNBA, where she was outstanding. Edwina I saw both as a college player and as a pro.

TXSNOS,

Sorry, ignore my last post. I reread the thread, and realized you were responding not to me but to outlookdude's post.

ahhhhh.....my bad. Broke my own rule....never reply to something you only scanned. I've blamed everything else yesterday on having the AC at home go out and my brains literally being fried. So I'll just throw this onto that pile and move on.

To continue a theme..Edna was at Texas when I briefly moved away from Austin. From my limited opportunities to watch her play at Texas I remember her being one of the fastest players I have seen here. She seemed to me to be above average in pretty much every aspect of her game, but I don't remember any single thing that she did at a really elite level. My fuzzy memories are of a smaller but more consistent Brittainey Raven…..probably handled the ball a little better than Brit…..But, I missed almost all of her second year at Texas and the memories really are fuzzy. I know that isn’t much of an answer. At least it is about the right player.

……but, there was this girl named Edwina….
