Best after shaving moisturizer or balm?

No matter if I use a blade or an electric razor, the skin from my lower lip to the chin gets inflamed and dried out, and by the end of the day I have obvious razor burn. Most of the time I have a beard or goatee so as to avoid shaving, but for a while I'm going to need to be clean shaven. What do y'all recommend as the best after-shaving moisturizer or skin balm?

If shave with a blade, I use King-of-Shaves Kinexium shaving oil and a shaving gel (also by King-of-Shaves) that's specially formulated for sensitive skin; if use an electric razor (Norelco), I always use a pre-shave and run the razor on the setting for sensitive skin. But it doesn't matter...I always get the razor burn, just in that area...not on the neck or along the jaw.

I don't have sensitive skin, but I do easily get in-grown hairs... so I've learned to 1) shave in the shower, 2) shave with the hair (not against it), and 3) use Neutragena face lotion for men afterwards. It has really helped me. I don't get baby smooth skin shaving with the hair, but it looks professional and that is all that matters.

"You put the balm on? Who told you to put the balm on? I didn't tell you to put the balm on. Why'd you put the balm on? You haven't even been to see the doctor. If your gonna put a balm on, let a doctor put a balm on."

I have been using this stuff for years. I love it. I have tried all of their versions of it and prefer this one. I have used Neutrogena's post shave lotion but I prefer this.

Nivea

I do use the Neutrogena Triple Protect lotion but only if I know I am going to be outside doing yard work, goign a game... SPF 15 is not great but it is better than nothing. I never get burnt with it. If I am going to have much longer term exposure (going to the lake,...) I use stronger stuff obviously but this is a good all around lotion.

I shave in the shower every day and use Neutrogena Razor Defense shaving cream (in a can not the stuff in a plastic container).

I also have sensitive facial skin. I tried a lot of stuff and here are some of the things that worked for me. I've got to warn you, though, that this stuff is expensive and, even though it worked for me, it might not work for you. You might want to try one thing first (and I'd suggest starting with a pre-shave oil) before buying anything else.

IMMEDIATELY AFTER your shower (not during, not before), pat your face dry (don't rub) and apply a pre-shave oil like The Art of Shaving Lavender Pre-Shave Oil or Lucky Tiger Moisturizer or Musgo Real Pre-Shave Oil. Give it a few minutes to work into your beard before applying your shaving cream. I've used all three and they all helped a great deal, but I've stuck with the Musgo. If you have to shave and couldn't shower before-hand, at least wash your face with a moisturizing or gentle soap (I heartily recommend Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser).

For shave cream, I'd suggest Institut Karité Moisturizing Shaving Cream. It worked really well for me. You can also try the Salt Spring Soap Works Stone Bay Shave Cream. It's available further down the same page. Again, wait half a minute to a minute before actually shaving.

At first, shave once with the grain, then again against the grain. Be steady. Try to avoid using pressure. Try to avoid using short strokes. After a few days (maybe only the first time), you should only have to shave with the grain, but every once in a while you'll have to shave against the grain.

Use warm water to rinse away the residue (don't use a towel to wipe it away. Do NOT use hot or cold water. Hot water will open your pores, making the top of the hair root semi-visible. Cold water will close your pores and make you susceptible to ingrown hairs.

For after-shave, try The Art of Shaving Lavender After-Shave Balm or Lucky Tiger After Shave and Face Tonic. If you can stomach the price, though, I highly, highly, highly recommend D.R. Harris Arlington Aftershave Milk about halfway down the page.

Hope some of this helps you.

Yep - Nivea is the bomb.
