Just had lunch there today. Not very appealing. I had the brisket. I tasted flavors that were not BBQ, pickle, onion, or bread. I have no idea, but it wasn't good.

Ben's has some of the best sausage and ribs anywhere. First Sam's, now this. wtf?

People will always argue about food and especially bbq. The OP's are generally tools who want to criticize a long-standing tradition because I guess they think it makes them seem cool.

I have to agree that the ribs are the bomb there...I dont really like the sides at all...they are mediocre at best....and there sauce is pretty unique...

Ben's is solid IMO. Not the best, but very good. Great ribs. Good sauce. Had better brisket, but it's not bad.

been there several dozen times. ben's is solid. there are items i like better at other places (ribs @ artz, sausage @ ruby's, brisket @ donn's), but overall, ben's is one of the better places in town. and every time the owner is there he always comes and sits and chats with us, really seems to appreciate our business.

the op is talking out of his ***. at worst, ben's is hit or miss, but more often than not, hits. i've been to ben's about 10 this year. only once was it a definite miss.

in austin, ben's has the best pork ribs, period. i've tried artz 3 times and have confirmed, ben's is better. ben's dry rub is out of this world. and the meat falls off the bone. i'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

the brisket is good, not great. chicken is very good. the mutton is good, if you dig mutton ribs. but to say that ben's sucks is downright stupid.
