Ben and Skin on 105.3

Anybody listening to their DFW afternoon drive show? They've got a nice chemistry going, and are finding their way on this. I started listening at first because I was so po'ed about UT getting screwed last year, and as a reaction to the OU homers and UT bashers on the Hardline show.

I find that their show is a lot fresher lately than the Hardline. When you get tired of segments on Rhyner's daughter and her sorority at USC (not as good as you might think, because she is Rhyner's daughter after all), or Danny and his birth mother, switch over to Ben and Skin. They had a good series recently on "Lost Wade Phillips Music Mixes".

They have Tim Cowlishaw on from 5 - 7, and evidently his deal is that they don't do the non-sports schtick during his time. That's fine. They still joke around a lot, and he was great a few weeks ago sharing inside stories about Jimmy Johnson.

Evidently, they're third on the arbitron ratings, behind the Hardline and Galloway's show. For my money, they are competing for the best show in afternoon drive.

I still listen to the morning show. Beyond that I don't even listen to the radio anymore. The hardline is worse than a dentist appointment these days.

I'm in on Ben and Skin. You can only take so much of Galloway. And the only time I listen to The Ticket is 10:00, if I happen to be on the road, to listen to Norm.

I catch them from time to time, but the Hardline is still great, imo. Some people don't get it, and/or don't like it, but I still do.

I would never stop listening to a station because of some perceived anti-UT bias. Corby is an ou homer, Rhyner doesn't care (he roots for USC because that is where his daughter goes), he just likes pissing off whiny Texas fans. It obviously doesn't hurt their ratings.

When B&S first started, they literally bitched about the Cowboys for 4 straight hours. They are starting to do more schtick, and I like their brand of humor.

I can't stand Randy Galloway. If you think the Hardline is predictable, then Galloway is practically on a 4 hour loop of the same show every day.

I listen to them when I can. I like the fact that they actually talk about the Rangers.

I never listen to the ticket anymore. Can't stand it.

Hardline = Greatness
Musers = Great
Bad Raio = Okay
Norm = zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

If you think about it, none of the so called radio jockeys are hard core horn fans. But they do give props when it's due. Outside of college football season, The Ticket doesn't have much coverage on college sports. They pretty much just beat you to death with T.O. and Jerry Jones talk.

Even though Corby is a OU fan (as well as Dunham), they are very entertaining to listen to.

Veggie, I'm past my December anger at the Ticket. Back then, I was burning up every time Corby or Craig discussed the upcoming BCS CG, and OU's chances, with no mention at all about Texas' game with the Buckeyes, let alone whether Texas should have been in the BCS CG. That's why I was flipping to 105.3 "The Fan".

Now I switch to the Ben and Skin show because it's usually better radio. More energy, better banter.

yeah when Ben and Skin first started they thought they were supposed to cowboys every minute of the broadcast. Now that they've gotten over that, they are much better. Wouldn't surprise me to see them move into second place behind the ticket.

I think the ticket is taking notice, they went to a serious amount of trouble the other day to do their prank on the two sales girls, even had the girls in the studio to explain how they felt about the prank. IMO the ticket knows they can't beat anyone on sports, so they occasionally pull some other stuff to try to keep people listening. The basketball game coming up against a girl's basketball team is the latest.

As long as the Ticket has 'Entertainment News' everyday, the other sports stations can't touch 'em!!

BRING BACK RUSS!!!

I understand what you are saying sometime Norm can get on your nerves. Actually I enjoy the "guy talk"....24/7 sport talk can get stale.

it is funny some of you ragging on the ticket, when ben and skin are cut from the VERY same cloth. hell, the ticket is how they got this gig.

i've always liked them. they put it on a little strong sometimes, but they definitely got something.

I read enough about sports on ESPN.com, SI.com, AAS.com, DMN.com, Hornfans, etc, and watch enough sports that I don't feel the need to listen to talk radio rehash all the same stuff I already know.

I just prefer the ability to turn my brain off for short periods of time throughout the day and enjoy the humor of the Ticket.

The ticket is greatness. The schtick just adds to the listening enjoyment. I can get my sports fix and be entertained by the musers, bad radio and the hardline. Who really wants 4 straight hours of cowboy offseason or how bad the rangers are gonna suck. As for the other stations, Ben and Skin as well as K-Scott all started at the ticket. Galloway just sucks and I cant undestand Michael Irvin most of the time. Stay hard and now for a little Claudette.

I like the schtick most of the time. But it gets on my nerves when there is a major sports even going on, and they barely even mention it. Bowl games that don't include OU, NBA playoff that don't include the Mavericks. On the Hardline during the regular NFL season, in any given, I beleive they only have one or two segments about teams outside of the Cowboys, even when some of the other matchups could affect their playoff chances.

Like I said, the schtick is great most of the time, but they're almost to the point where they aren't sports talk anymore. Just guy talk with sports included on the ticker. Sometimes....

Dunham and Miller and Gordon are pure radio genius. Hard to believe how long they have survived on radio - must be b/c with them and Fernandez at the helm they do a top notch entertaining radio show.

They're done. I thought they were on vacation last week, but on Saturday's "The Orphanage", Baliss said they were let go. He said they were probably happier now.

I haven't enjoyed the Ben and Skin show for a couple of months. They just took calls and pimped Rangers baseball (105.3 broadcasts the Rangers). Baliss said that the station made them take calls all the time, and that's why the show sucked. I wouldn't mind seeing them back with the Ticket somehow.

i bet they get a chance to comeback. that is a really, really difficult timeslot for guys like ben and skin to come in and compete. particularly if they were not given the creative freedom that got them the job in the first place.

when i go to oklahoma it cracks me up listening to the radio up there. it's all call in sports radio. it is an inferior system when you have talent that can carry a show without it. the ticket has such talent i guess.... because they have shown that their format is the format that MANY, MANY, stations have tried to copy... but can't seem to get it done.
