I don't think he could have beaten Big Brown but he would have challenged him. Sad to see him out.

That's really too bad. The talk was that Casino Drive could have pushed him a bit. But, I don't think there's any way he could have beat Big Brown. He is truly an amazing horse.

I know less about horse racing than just about any other sport, but it sure looked like Big Brown didn't have that top gear he showed in the Preakness. I wonder if he's sick or banged up . . . handsome horse.

Now they're saying he was off steroids today and are questioning if that was the difference earlier. If one horse is juiced, woudn't they all be as a matter of competitive practice? I presume it's legal.

If Desormeaux pulled Big Brown up to save him from whatever, that is the ethical and humane thing to do. He said he "had no horse," so why push him? If the horse ends up not being injured, then that's great. However, they're still animals, not machines. Today, Big Brown just didn't bring it. There's nothing anyone could do about it.

Da'Tara was pretty awesome today. I kinda had a feeling that after Big Brown's pompous *** trainer guaranteed a victory, he had some comeuppance headed his way.

With that, I leave you with this eternal video of the greatest horse ever: Secretariat. This never gets old.

I thought the post-race coverage was very empty of attention and congratulation on the actual winner. They had their Big Brown story line and were going with it. There wasn't even a replay of the winner's race for about half an hour after the race.

What's crazy is there were only two horses besides Big Brown that were under 20:1 odds to win, and one of them got scratched. There was essentially no competition. It was as close to a rigged outcome as there could be (legally, that is).
I guess some days they just don't have it, and no one knows why.

It's always perplexing, and this was not something massively frustrating like he stumbles out of the gate or a bad bump or a bad gate. He had a clear path.

Sometimes the horse just doesn't have it or won't give it.

My GF has a horse named Green Birdie who is the fastest four year-old miler in Hong Kong. He is always the fastest in the final quarter IF HE RUNS.

Sometimes he just won't.

Our last race the little ****** was kicking and jumping and being a little btich in the paddock and refused to go for no ******* reason in the race.

However in the HK Derby trial he was fired up and caught the eventual HK Derby winner with 100 meters to go and won it going away.

if you like racing here is the race where i fell in love with the little bastard

The Link

He had gate 4 and the Jockey is wearing a green and red Jersey. he held him back through the first 3 sections on the tail of the favorite Helene Mascot. He followed him throught he gap and had a clear run at then end. Watch the burst. He can GO when it matters but only if he wants to.

I fed the little ****** a lot of carrots after that race - 6 to 1 on the odds.

He finished 3rd in the Derby but had a ****** gate way outside. In HK the turns are tight and the gates matter. He lost to Helene Mascot. Helene Mascot had gate number 1.

I love watching the races since I moved here. I have ridden for the last 7 years or so but never got into racing until now.

Call him "little f****r" any more than you have and we'll have no choice but to speculate as to your g/f's relationship with him; or if you're really aggy!!!!!

As was pointed out, these are animals. And animals can have a bad day, just like people can. And since the quarter crack, BB had to miss a few days of training, and maybe he just didn't feel like going hard for 1 1/2 miles.

I just hope there's nothing that keeps him from producing outstanding offspring. He could have a long line of descendants that prove to be good horses.

Don't know if the info below is true but...

For what it is worth, I have a neighbor who has 200 thoroughbreds. The guy who runs the farm told me that Big Brown was on 'roids which are legal and the owner of Big Brown wanted to make a statement that 'roids weren't responsible for making the horse great. The farm manager said that he agreed with this thought, but a horse on 'roids sometimes seems like it'll run through a wall for you. Obviously Big Brown didn't have it and the horse manager said it was probably because it missed its cycle which threw the horse off.

I still get chills when I watch a video of Secretariat. Truly, it never gets old.

"He's moving like a tremendous machine ..."

Chills.
