Bell's foul on Parker

Ok, at first glance it didn't look like a big deal. It kind of seemed like a hard foul, but that's what happens when two guys are sprinting at full speed down the court and they bump in mid-air - it doesn't take anything malicious or flagrant to make it tough for a guy to stop his momentum, so he ends up flying/skidding off the court into the camera guys. My first thought was "The fans wanting a flagrant for this need to realize Bell was just trying to block the shot and got Tony with his body, nothing unusual."

But on the replay, it kind of looked like Bell came across his own body with his right hand to pop Tony in the face. I couldn't tell for sure though - what do you guys think?

It's interesting to me how Lebron was protected when Haywood pushed him hard and made no attempt on the ball. Haywood was quickly ejected.

Bell's shot on Parker was all body on the opposite side of the ball. He just hit him to knock him off balance. Same with Shaq's shoulder to Tim's midsection in game 3 (I think?) Shaq made no attempt to block the shot, just lowered his shoulder and went right at Duncan's midsection.

Parker lowered his shoulder and moved into Bell. Bell did the same to Parker. Parker weighs less than Bell and tried to sell the foul. That's all that happened.

And as for "going to the basket", I guess you could argue Parker was going to try to cross the face of the basket and lay it in on the right side. But guess what? When there's someone running next to you and you try to cross their path, you're going to run into them.

There was nothing dirty there. You guys are whining. Focus on actual dirty **** like Shaq's shoulder.

The point of the original post (in which I clearly stated that the body contact was not dirty) was the possible face hit.

It looked like Bell's hand came across and hit Tony right in the face, but also looked like his hand might have swiped right past Tony's face without touching him. Did it look to you on replay like the hand whacked the face or not?

For the record, Tony's comments about the incident:

"It was nothing. He wasn't trying to hurt me."

So I think the "poor Tony" crap is a wholly unwarranted. He did "suck it up" and take it like a man, you goof.

Don't think it was a particularly big deal, but to say Parker initiated it is ridiculous. In the replay Bell very clearly changed his angle and went into Parker.

The only prob I had with the foul is it appeared Bell made no attempt with his arms/hands to go for the ball. He seemed to only use his arms to knock him off balance. At least go for the ball.

I love how Tony attacks the basket. To think we almost pulled a Cuban and gave him away for Kidd. Whew!

yeah, no whining at all...; just taking up for the little guy, I get it. My point was that it was just funny that a thread was started on the topic. no harm intended spurs fans, keep that chin up.

added that wink so no one gets any more defensive.

All I know is that that series is over and it's time to get ready for New Orleans on Saturday night. Leave the what ifs and second guessing to Phoenix. They're good at it.

I'd like to find a clip of the Parker - Bell collision. From memory, it sure seemed like Bell was the one initiating the contact, but my memory fails me.

Stat, to answer your original question, from my angle (both live and on the replay), It didn't look like Bell actually hit him with the swipe. Apparently, Tony didn't take any offense and it was just a hard bump. The refs huddled and made the right call - a plain old foul, not a flagrant.
