Belize Suggestions

I'm going to Belize with a couple buddies of mine. We are going to have 7 full days, as well as an extra night and morning.

We want to spend a few days doing the beach/ocean thing, and then at least a few doing the jungle/adventure thing.

I'm looking for recommendations for all parts, including restaurants and everything. I'm about to buy a travel book and research this more on the internet but I always like to hear firsthand accounts.

Also, we wouldn't mind doing an all-inclusive type of thing while we're at the beach, so recommendations for that would be great.

how old are you....im guessing 20's or so. I went with 2 other people to Belize last year just to get away for a week. We flew into Belize City and made teh mistake of staying a night there. DO NOT stay in BC, there is nothing there, its worth just moving on to your next destination directly.

What we did was we few in and then the next day we left for Guatemala (Flores and Tikal). They have daily buses that go out there (takes about 6 hours or so) and drops you off in Flores (which is actually a really scenic city) with cheap beer and cheap food. You can take a day trip from there to go see all the Mayan stuff in Tikal (tourist people will sell you a bus out there, easy enough). You cna climb some Mayan crap and it is in the jungle and not many people at all. If you want jungle, you can see it there. We stayed 3 days in Flores (at 3 bucks a person a night with a 3 bed room with shower and all...but you might want shower shoes as it is sketch). The next day we rented a kayak and went out on the lake (Flores is an island in a large lake). That was entertaining and the water seemed clean enough.

After our 3 nights there....we headed back to BC on the bus (you book it back when you get there) and we went straight to the boat dock that takes you to the cayes (same place as the bus station) and went out to caye caulker instead of the amberguyas (sp?) caye. Caye caulker is less touristy but cheaper. We found some cheapish hotel room (60 a night...not bad for 3 people on an island right on the beach). I do not know about all inclusive there in Belize, but you could et beers for 3 bucks anywhere.....(naturally only Belikin beer) but that seemed to be the price everywhere in Belize. We stayed for 3 nights snorkling/scuba and laying around on hammocks. Lots of restuarants at reasonable prices if you look around, met up with some random scandanavian girls out there also....so there are other people in their 20s there. I do not know about amberguyas caye, so someone else will have to give you a review on that....

Yeah I've been researching, I got a travel book... What I'm thinking now is starting out in the jungle and ending up on the cayes. I think we'll rent a car...

I don't know about which caye to go to though, ambergrais or caulker.. I've heard that ambergrais has more stuff, but caulker is less developed which can be good (and cheaper). We wanna have fun and meet people and go to bars to drink at night too...

For night life, Ambergis is going to be your place. It's by far the biggest caye off the coast of Belize and it's also the most touristy.

I'm going with some buddies this year as well and we are going to do a cave expidition in the jungle near Belmopan on our first day. From there, we're driving the rental car south to Placencia which supposedly has the best beaches in all of Belize.

Keep in mind that we are all in our 30s and plan to just hang, drink, fish and dive. I know Placencia is pretty quiet for the most part, but I've read it's hard to beat in terms of price, fishing and diving. I think it's about a 3-4 hour drive from BC.

One other advantage is that we will not have to fool with as much commuting time (ie, buses, boat shuttles, commuter flights, etc.). We're renting a car and finding our own way around.

We went to Belize in 2006 for 8 days and seven nights. Flew into BC, rented a car and then drove ourselves to the Cayo District. We stayed at the Hidden Valley Inn. Probably not what you are looking for but they have over 7000 acres of land. You can hike to the waterfalls they have oon property. google Butterfly Falls and see the images. We also visited some Mayan ruins in the area.

We spent the other half of the vacation on Ambergris Caye. A great little island with night life. We fished, snorkeled and drank. I do not believe there is an all inclusive on the island. Stayed in some condo for $85 that was clean and had a/c in the bedroom. The beach on Ambergris is protected by the reef so it is not like Playa or Galveston. The main part of the island where all the resturants and bars are might be 1/4 mile long and everyone drives golf carts. Only certain number of cars allowed on the island.

Fido's Bar
Elvi's
Celis's
Jambel Jerk (i think) Jamaican flag on front street, middle of town

If all else fails ask the locals. they were all very friendly. Met a guy at a bar that was from San Marcos living on the island.
