Beijing 4x100 Men's Final-Jamaica Obliterates WR

Man Bolt really got the lead for them. Reminded me of the men's swimming relay I think 4x50 where Phelps swam the 3rd leg and really opened up the eventual winning margin and got his 8th gold.

Did you see how Bolt nearly ran over Powell trying to hand him the baton. If Powell had taken off sooner and Jamaica had better overall handoffs then they could have gone a second lower.

3 tenths is a pretty good margin.

But I laugh when I hear the same thing said of Bolt's 200m record. While he did destroy the competition, he only beat Johnson's record by 2 hundreths....pretty slim if you ask me.

I'm not as impressed by the 200 as I am the 100 and relay. Actually it makes me appreciate what Johnson did all the more.

All I'm saying is that if it were Johnson in that race, instead of Bolt, then the margin of victory would have been just as big.

THAT makes me appreciate Johnson.

When Bolt won so easily in the 100m, I never entertained thoughts that he wouldn't also win the 200 and probably do so in record fashion.

Who's gonna break it?

Bolt.

I don't see why he cannot get it under 19.

He maxed out at 150m. After that he couldn't maintain his speed to the line. If he can improve his conditioning....sub 19 is a real possibility. His long stride is why I think so.

I guess with three high-profile relays dropping batons before the Jamaicans ran, they felt they had to play it conservatively, but I agree that it looked as if there was at least a full second of time given away in the exchanges. Pretty good deal when you lead off with your two slow guys, saving the world record guys for 3rd and 4th, but your slow guys have run 9.96 and 9.98.
