Behemoth. (and Metal band requests)

I saw a write up on this metal band in the Daily Texan and saw their picture. I had to laugh and thought, "What a bunch of Goth wannabe posers!". No way they could be taken serious given their garb and getup. I read the article and was actually intrigued. They may be legit in not playing soft sucky artsy metal.

So I did some research and finally picked up their latest effort. Okay, they are hard. They are thrash and they are evil, at least they try to be and think they are as do their fans and government officials in their country of Poland. There are efforts to get this banned banned from Poland. No live performances, etc... That says something if you are being shunned by your government and that gov't is Poland because that country has produced some pretty loud bands.

Also, the Catholic officials are very unhappy with them which sits well with me. Anybody know much about them other than their goofy appearances that they obviously put a lot of time and effort into? Are there any thrash/black metal bands out and about I may have missed? (I miss a lot because I don't pay attention to this genre like I used to).

Other bands I like: Slayer (when they were good Reign in Blood and prior), Lamb of God, S.O.D., Superjoint Ritual, Venom, etc... I am not big into the whole Scandanavian thing. Too soft for me though I admire the amazing musicianship of groups like In Flames and others from over there. Just not my preference.

This is Behemoth's website. I still think they try too hard with image but hey, to each their own.

August Burns Red, hmmm. Cool name and never heard of 'em. Will look for it. Thanks.

I've heard of Nothingface but cannot recall off the top of my head what they sound like. I think I have a song of theirs on a compilation somebody made for me that was some heavy *** ****.

Behemoth is part of a string of AWESOME death metal bands out of Poland. The best, imho, is Decapitated. The drummer was 16 when they cut their first album. He was 14 when they cut their first demo.

First track of first album (keep in mind the drummer is 16, the rest of the band is no older than 19) - check the drums about 30 seconds in: Winds of Creation

Best song: Spheres of Madness

Second best song: The Empty Throne

FWIW, the drummer, Vitek, died in a car accident last year - about two weeks before I was scheduled to go see them play. Suck.

I just kind of have favorite albums from select bands because none of the bands are consistently good for too long. Though Matt Barlow is back with Iced Earth and that makes me happy as hell.

Top 5 albums:

In Flames - The Jester Race/Black Ashe Inheritance
Children Of Bodom - Bestbreeder
Iced Earth - Alive In Athens
Death - Symbolic
Opeth - Blackwater Park

Though I don't have speakers on my computer I will always take a 68 suggestion as gold, smelt gold fury. ty.

I like Children of Bodom. I think I saw them in San Antonio at Celebration Station. It was them or Dimur B.

Ty for all suggestions. I did not find Behemoth to take any getting used to. It is right up my alley. I had read that Poland has some pretty sick and dark metal bands which is why I was impressed that Poland was so up in arms over Behemoth. They pushed the right, or wrong buttons.
