Beer is Here

What is the over/under on how long it will be before some 'fan' makes the powers that be regret this decision?

I'm all for it. Getting inside the stadium earlier and enjoying a cold one, better crowd noise, fans staying longer. Way it should be. Not trying to always time the long hike between a drink and the event. Those who drink for games understand how this helps tremendously. You don't have to be obnoxious or bothersome to others just because you enjoy drinking beer and watching football. Sure there will be increased drama now and then, but nothing too frequent to cause a meltdown. Back in the 90's there were more flasks lining the stands than you could dare to count. Now people are drinking beer. Big deal, wah wah, do-gooders.

The Link

Now it seems "pop a top" or however it's served will start tomorrow a the softball game.

Somehow I bet they never thought softball would kick off the alcohol sale era at UT. Still won't have it at the Spring Game.

It's a trial balloon to see what happens. Seems like you would have to sell it at a football game to get the full effect of what it would do with a much larger crowd.

100% agree with beer sales at the Baseball and Basketball games. Nothing like kicking back a watching 9 innings with a few cold beers.
I am not sure about selling beer at the Football games. I know they already sell it on the clubs and this gives everyone a right to buy a 7.00 cup of beer. However, it seems different in that a lot people have already been imbibing for hours at tailgates prior to the game and a three to four hour game serves to add a bit of sobriety to a lot of fans. With access to more beer, I don't believe a lot of people that need to sober up a bit in order to drive home will stop drinking. Might not happen , but it would seem that it will be a little less safe on the roads after football games.

I read it would be $8 for a plastic bottle of beer, undoubtedly Major National Athletic Sponsor insipid lite beer, so as a practicing beer snob, I am not too hopeful the vendors will be selling interesting craft beers from local microbrews.
Also, I don't really want to wait 20 minutes in a beer line for the joy of making one of these donations, missing a quarter of the football game. But maybe I'm wrong about these premonitions.
Other schools have stated the alcohol sales at their venues cuts down on binge drinking prior to games by fans, and has actually decreased alcohol related incidents, so maybe it will be a good thing in that regard.
Now, if they install a few frozen margarita machines at one of those 105 degree September games, I might need wheelchair service postgame.

In the past I've heard post game alcohol induced arrests/incidents have gone down after allowing beer sales because of the reduced need to binge drink before. Also less liquor being smuggled into the game means a better chance of moderating high alcohol percent consumption.

accurate,

Maybe they'll have that Voodoo Dark Nasty Stuff that you brought to the tg. Should sell for $1 a cup.

I hope all are right that it cuts down on post-game disasters. All we don't need is the one bad apple to spoil it for the rest of us.

The video showed individual bottles of a red and a white wine but couldn't read labels.

All are $8 each. Can buy a sixer of a good premium beer for that. Ridiculous, as is all concession pricing at UT sporting events.

I'm sure there will be some vintage "Thunderbird," "Annie Greensprings," and "Boon's Farm."

May I suggest you request the 2008 vintage as it was a particually good year for mass production vino due to the economic happenings of the time.

Ask your vendor to bring it to your seat wrapped in a paper napkin. Then carefully unscrew the cap with the appropiate "Swiss Army" or "Boy Scout" knife tool to ensure the smoothness of the bottle neck. Wouldn't want any cut lips. For special occasions maybe Texas will offer those collapsable plastic cups with a Longhorn label on it.

Then sniff the bottle cap and drink in the "bouquet" of the fine vintage by using upward strokes of your right hand over the bottle opening toward your nose.

Take out the paper towel wrapped cheese you have carried around in your pocket all day and enjoy!

IF the "trial runs" at baseball, softball, and basketball get football approved, I can see kiosks selling local and other premium microbrews.

I can also see $10-12 bottles of those beers. The UT loves its profits.

I quit drinking beer BEFORE the game many, many years ago, because once you were packed into your seats (sec. 2), it was annoyingly hard for everyone, to get out of your seat, crawl over 20 people also crammed in shoulder to shoulder, to head to the bathroom several times during the game to pee. Not fun, for anyone.
