Beer Illegal at the Grove

I've been to the Grove twice and drank beer both times. One must use "discretion". As someone else posted, there are random "cooler checks". All I saw last time at the LSU game was a lot of good times ,folks packed in there like sardines, dressed way nicer than one would expect..it was a really great time. Looking forward to Saturday.

Luckily we'll be with a couple Ole Miss grads....we'll leave the Grove logistics to them and just follow their lead.

Apparently you just pack your coolers so at a glance in it appears "legal" beer on bottom, mixers and water on top...we should be good to go.

My Ole Miss buddy also set something up where "they" set pick your spot, set up your tent, provide you chairs and a couple coolers. I don't know who "they" is, but I'm thankful that we don't have to worry about doing all that stuff.

Maybe this is a good time to remember that Mississippi was the last state in the union to go wet. Prior to that time, Mississippi collected a form of black market tax on illegal sales of alcoholic beverages, and the State Treasurer was compensated in part based on that haul. That situation made the Mississippi State Treasurer, at least at the time, the highest paid public official in the United States.

When they went wet, they did so under a licensing scheme that maximized the tax benefits to the state, including, at least initially, very tight state controls on the available outlets for the sale of alcohol.

Just FWIW.

Hell, just go with the flow. When the General Lee pulls up at your tailgate, buy some moonshine and toast the locals' good health.
