In case you have never tried this you will be surprised at how easy and quick as well as delicious it is........
In a large mixing bowl mix.......
4 - Cups Self Rising Flour (must be self rising)
about 2/3 cups sugar
Mix well.
Add 16 ounces of beer. Any beer will do.
You can experiment with different dark beers but a Shiner Bock works very well. You can also use a domestic beer.
Mix with a large heavy wooden spoon until incorporated.
Pour into a buttered or cooking sprayed bread pan.
Now I like to let mine rise a little before baking but you can put this into a 350 degree preheated oven immediately and the bread will rise while baking.
Bake about 1 to 1 hour and 15 minutes or until an inserted knife comes out clean.
Dump bread onto a cutting board (out of the pan) and let cool somewhat.
Cut with a serrated knife from the bottom.
Cut from the bottom because the top crust is kind of hard and you might tear up the bread when slicing.
Serve with real butter and only real butter.
Enjoy.
Now this is my DRAG version of this bread.
I like it kind of sweet hence the 2/3 cups of sugar.
The original recipe is the same except you use...
3 - cups self rising flour
2 - TBSP Sugar
1 - 12 oz Beer
Bake at 350 for 1 hour.
This makes a good loaf but not as large.
You also do not have to let it rise before you bake but I find it makes a better loaf if you do.
I usually let mine rise on the stove for about 30 to 45 minutes.
Experiment with different kinds of beers.
You can also mix in some garlic or green chilles or jalapenos or even some cheese but keep in mind you may have to bake it a little longer.
You can also brush a little butter on top at the very end of the baking time but I find mine gets a pretty good brown top without it.
Oh and the next day the leftovers make the best toast ever.
Hope you enjoy this DRAG Style Beer Bread !!!!!!
