Beckham's first MLS goal

that comment cracks me up.. it is Becks 7th match in MLS I think.... it is not like he has played that long here at all. He had a goal and an assist in this game, and LA won 2-0, not bad considering they have no defense, and a second tier keeper.

Other than the occassional free kick, he's not supposed to be a scorer. He's there because he provides the best service/crossing in the game. And, yes, I stayed up late specifically to watch him play as it is a thing of beauty.

yeah he played what 6 games last season, all of which he was less than 100% and he took too long to score?? he's a midfielder. what he contributes to the game isn't scoring ability, rather the ability to control the flow of the game. think of him as the point guard. waht he does with the soccer ball is a thing of art. the touch he's able to impart is ridiculous.

i stayed up late to watch it too. some thoughts... the landycakes/bex combo looked really good last night. gordon had many chances which he flubbed. chris klein needs a payraise. cannon makes really bad decisions and is a step slower than he used to be.

I agree, it was fun to watch Donovan and Beckham play together with a better understanding. It was a stroke of genius to put Klein at Right Back. His ability to interchange with Beckham and Donovan was terrific. If Klein can defend effectively, that trio will cause a lot of problems for their MLS opponents.

Me So, he did score in a Superliga match. Superliga is NOT MLS. So Beckham has scored a goal before for LA, but not during MLS play. That is the difference.

I love the people who come on and don't understand futbol, yet make comments about it. If you don't get it, don't like it, that is fine, but there really isn't a need to make comments that prove that you don't know the game.

Becks will score some, but obviously he hasn't been and won't be a prolific scorer.
I do agree that Gordon looked like a dud last night. The Quakes will not be good this year. It was nice to see LA do better than they did against the Rapids on Sat. though. They looked terrible during that match.
I am also excited that the Fire scorched the Revs...

Beckham's free kick in SuperLiga last year was ridiculous. Then he got injured and didn't play the remaining few weeks of the Gals' season.

He's the type of player that might score 4-5 goals a year. At Manchester United, when he was among the best 2-3 players in the world at his position, he scored 61 goals in 265 appearances (1 goal every 4.3 games). That's not his game.

I realize that he's an easy target, being the "pretty boy" of soccer, but there is not a harder working player/person in all of sports. Really. The guy has an unparalleled work ethic and always has.

A lot of people don't understand that about Beckham.

That dude Alan Gordon is TERRIBLE. How is that guy a starting forward anywhere? I think the home fans even booed him at one point after he tripped over the ball in the box.

Becks is a badass. He was on last night. Landycakes actually played well too. They were in sync. Hope that continues throughout the season. Gordon absolutely sucks ***.

I still can't believe we have Becks in MLS. His first goal for the Galaxy (Superliga) was ridiculous. That was a great game in front of 60K+ in NY. This season he can relax and play his game. No more adjusting to a new country, being forced to play early, dealing with injuries.

The most frustrating thing is the non soccer fans saying he sucks because he doesn't score. All the hype surrounding his arrival made them think he was going to score 3 goals a game.

I'm also of the opinion that Gordon sucks.

Do you guys watch MLS because it's the only form of soccer in the states? Personally I think it is 4th tier soccer. There are way too many mistakes, slow play, sloppy shots on goal, and a lower set of skills than is found in many other leagues around the world. If I were you I'd dish out the extra 30-40 bucks or whatever it is and watch premiere league soccer in all it's glory. You do have to realize there is a reason Man U let Beckham out of his contract. He is older and is on the downside of his career. Is he one of the better players in the MLS ... sadly yes. Is he still one of the best players in the world? no. By the way I heard the rumor mill going on that the MLS wants Ronaldo with both his reconstructed ACL's.

I watch EPL and MLS. For a couple of reasons. I understand and have enough information about the leagues to care about the league and teams. I have FSC and so I get to see a good number of EPL teams and yes the play is superior. MLS is young, and has pretty good play for such a young league. I also enjoy the business side of it and seeing that model play out. I think that having soccer specific stadiums is just genius!
I also like it for the patriotic reason and because local cities have teams. I also can GO to a game. I can't very well travel to England to attend a match, but I can drive a few hours to Houston or Dallas and see play.
I got into going to games when I lived in Chicago, so I still have a heart for the Fire as well.

i cannot watch the MLS on tv, i used to goto the Burn games, but MLS makes my eyeballs bleed with the (how i perceive it to be anyway) boredom.

i understand that might be undeserved now, but i'd rather watch a european match, even if it's a replay and i know the outcome.

can't explain it, just the way it is

I think this is appropriate point in the thread to state that all your futbol team are belong to the Dynamo.

Thank you.
