i would think that a 10-2 ND in the above scenario would be more frustrating, because the BCS would probably be tempted to take them over some 11-1 team

Well, that will never happen, so no reason to worry about it.

On a slightly related note, I'm starting to think that maybe, with 4 at-large slots now, one of those should be turned into an automatic bid for the MWC. That conference is arguably as good as the ACC and Big East right now, it just doesn't have the same name on the jersey appeal with the exception of BYU.
