BBQ Pit for tailgate

I've beren tailgating for many, many years, getting by with various smallish grills. I think it's time for a pit on wheels to pull behind a truck. I don't want anything too huge, but something around 6-7' long of grilling surface would be about right, I think.

Recommendations? I live in Austin, and would drive up to an hour to get the right one. UT logo on the pit a plus, but not a necessity.

Oh, and I'd like to have this a few days before the Ole Miss game, so there may not be enough time for a lot of customization.

Thanks!

That looks like a great store. I haven't been able to find a whole lot in Austin, other than a place called Magnum Trailers that retails some pits made by Lyfe Tyme out of Uvalde.

I was surprised that Cabela's in Buda didn't stock them, but maybe they wouldn't sell at a high enough volume to fit their business model.

Thanks for the tip!

If you really want the best in smoker pits, you should have Don Wylie build you one. He built the one I have about 20 years ago.

You won't get it by Ole Miss and it won't be the cheapest route to go, but Wylie definitely has the "touch" in making pits and his always seem to have a really sweet draw.

Email me at [email protected] if you want to look at mine and/or visit with him.

If you just watch Craigslist you can end up getting a great deal. I recently got a fantastic trailer smoker that would have cost me at least $5k new for $2200. Lots of folks get big eyes for a smoker and then never really use it.

Go by 18th and Trinity after four o'clock game day. There is one park on the northwest corner. They apparently start BBQing at their home, and then tow the pit to the tailgate. It is big with a large longhorn on the side.

Check out Klose in Houston. Ex oil field fabricators for sure. Bought small smoker in 1996 and had to replace it about 3 weeks ago.
