I am driving to pittsburg and wanted to know if any of ya'll have any suggestions of a place to eat while there? Plus will probably be hitting memphis at around dinner time and wanted to know if anyone knows a good place to eat memphis bbq. I have heard about interstate and rendvous. thanks in advance

I don't know of anything specific in Pittsburgh as it has been 10+ years since my last visit but in general, Italian food in PA is outstanding. A ton of those little coal mining towns were settled by Italian immigrants and the food is usually top-notch. I'd ask around for a local Italian place and I bet you can't go wrong.

The rendevous is the place everyone hits in Memphis at least once. If Memphis BBQ is something you like, they do it well.

We stayed @ the Best Western 2 years ago when we did Memphis... (the whole Elvis thing).

this was downtown & across the street from The Peabody (the place with the ducks that go from the roof to the lobby fountain) & across the alley from our hotel is the Holiday Inn. It turns out we were unknowingly about 100 ft. from the entrance to the Rendezvous as it's down the alley that separates the Holiday Inn & Best Western.

It was great stuff; stay away from the place on Beale Street @ the corner (don't recall the name, but I didn't much care for it). The Rendezvous does it over charcoal & it's good stuff... Not what you're used to here in Central Texas, but good in a different way.

I don't think the Best Western is still under the same name; they were remodeling & it may have been sold. Price for the room was good; around $ 80.00 / night, even though the room was a bit small - but then is that what you went to Memphis for?

Make sure to ask for sauce on the side.

Thanks for the suggestions but on the way out did not have time to eat in memphis and we just dropped the load in Pitt in the morning so didn't eat there either. On the way back we just stopped in memphis and ate at jim neely's interstate barbecue (had seen it on a bbq tv show) because rendezvous was closed. I was not impressed with memphis barbecue at all. had the sampler platter so tried a little bit of everything. everything was drenched in sauce and was sweet. no spice or pepper in anything. place was packed for lunch so a lot of people must like it but it just wasn't for me

I went to Rendezvous and Corky's last time i was there October. Both were strong and definitely worthy of recommendations. I've seen Neely's on TV as well, and, well it all looked kinda gross.

Neely's is hit or miss. It can be very good or mediocre.
Rendezvous is a great disappointment and does not deserve its reputation.
Germantown Commissary does great ribs!
Corky's is the Goode Co. of Memphis -- not very authentic, but clean, dependable and a damn good pulled pork sandwich.

.

I've been to them all and I agree Tonesky.

Gtown Commissary & Central BBQ are the best
Corky's is reliably good
Neely's is bad
Rendezvous is horrible

Another recommendation for Germantown Commissary. Hit it right and get the all-you-can-eat ribs. And when they say all you can eat, they mean it. When we went last, there were 3 of us. The other 2 were slowing down and were done. Said they didn't want any more. I said, give me another half rack. Waitress goes through the kitchen door and yells 3 more half racks, and promptly returned with 3 more half racks.
