BBQ in Abilene

I almost hate to say it, but Sharon's BBQ on E. Hwy 80 is better than Joe's. Joe Allen's moved away from that little dive on Treadaway around the corner to a "new" building on S. 11th and it hasn't been the same since. The menu is still the same, but he's combined the place with a sit down restaurant which is connected to Cahouts Oyster Bar which has been there for decades. The whole setup is a little confusing to be honest.

Sharon's is usually packed around lunch time. I go there once or twice a week and I've had to wait for a table a couple of times. Went by there the other day around noon and the line was backed out the door. Being in a hurry, I drove down to Joe's where the place was almost empty. Really kind of sad for those us that grew up at that old Joe Allen's shack where the walls had pictures and autographs from Jimmy Carter, Bush 41, Ted Nugent, etc.

Anyway, I would recommend Sharon's if you want great BBQ and sides. Best damn potato salad in the world and she makes this chili cheese corn that is very good. If you want BBQ sandwiches, I would go with Harold's near downtown on Walnut.

Great information. Thank you very much. Is Sharon's open for dinner? We will have meetings all day at the airport and then I'll take my northeastern co-workers for real Que!!

What do you suggest ordering and how do you order, by the lbs.?

I want a BBQ plate with brisket, sausage, potato salad and chili corn?

My boss loves Wendy's chili

Is there any place to get good chili in Abilene?

Looks like Sharon's for lunch and Lytle for dinner and then Sharon's again the next day for lunch before I catch my plane back to DC.
