Baylor vs Connecticut

Refs letting both teams play. Quite the impressive home crowd Baylor has there. Of course so did we when we played the Huskies last year.

Baylor up 4 with a quarter to go. Surprised at the lack of depth from such good programs. Bears have only even played one sub, and the Huskies have 0 bench points. Be interesting to see if one or the other tires and gets sloppy late.

Looks like that would be UConn. They are bricking everything out there. And they have no counter whatsoever for Kalani Brown, she's basically done whatever she wanted with the ball and on the boards.

HECK YEAH!! Welcome to BIG 12 COUNTRY UConn! Way to beat them Baylor!!! I know some of y'all don't like BU but I don't give a hoot tonight. They represented Big 12 well tonight.

Yeah, not really surprised by that although not many teams can matchup with Kalani inside but UConn doesn’t have a lot of size to begin with.

To each their own. I’m sure as heck not rooting for a team that Texas competes/recruits against. I would probably feel a little differently if Texas actually beat them every once in a while.

Good Job Baylor.
Not a big time Baylor fan.
But I got to give Kim credit.
She has a good connection with her player's.
The fire that she has for basketball, is showed thru the play of her player's.

Impressive win for Baylor and a boost for the conference.
Impressive play by the Lady Bear posts. Smith just has a nose for the ball plus she is very quick. I didn't know that Brown could shoot from that far out. From the FT line, yes, but she was out near the 3pt line on several shots. Cox was impressive with her ability to guard Collier (her primary assignment it looked like) and Samuelson (at times) out on the perimeter. When you have all three in the lineup as Baylor did several times, it's going to be tough to get a rebound plus all three are good shot blockers.

And I will still say that there is no dominant team in WBB this year. Baylor is really good defensively and will obviously be tough to score on. But I think on a neutral floor any of the top teams can win it all this year.

Well done Baylor, that's how you win by playing disciplined basketball (5 total turnovers, as opposed to 25 TOs), and playing strong defense holding Connecticut to 9-36 2 point FG.

It's what I wish Texas could do. We're screwed.

I agreed with you the first time you said it, and I agree now. I just didn't think Texas would be one of those top teams, and they haven't given me a reason to change my mind.

The separation between Baylor and Texas is now GLARING, where it was once marginal. Last year we had 10 McDonald's HS All-Americans on our roster while they had only 8 players total, yet they swept us like a broom. We missed our opportunity, and now they've reloaded and are running off leaving us in the dust. It's not going to get any better until we have a coaching staff that can coach and develop the players in addition to being successful at recruiting. With KA in charge, clearly it doesn't matter WHO we sign.

Baylor played great. The game really never felt like it was in doubt. Based on Baylor's performance last night, and Texas' two nights ago, they will slaughter us by 30 points. Of course, those are only two games but the difference in focus, talent and coaching at this moment in time is deflating. Here's hoping for dramatic improvement by Texas otherwise it will be yet another sweep by the Bears this year.

The truth is in the writing on the wall... And I agree it's VERY deflating.

While I have read this forum for a while I finally decided to join and comment. These are my observations and not meant to offend or bash anyone. I like these players and coaches and hope for great success.

Recruiting - Aston and staff are very good recruiters. Maybe too good. It is tough to stack the bench with MAA's and keep everyone happy. UT/Austin is very easy to recruit to. A couple of years ago Tennessee had the most talent of any team in the county (10 MAA's I think) and it blew up on Warlick.
Talent - this team has the talent to play with anybody in the country. I don't think they believe the can win big games yet.
Defensive Scheme - Man to man with a little zone mixed in. I think that is fine but, I would like to see more in game changes. Switch defenses coming out of a timeout etc. Be hard to scout.
Offensive Scheme - Lack of creativity. Other than a play are two the plan seems to be to score in transition. This doesn't typically put the best scorers in the best position to score and not hard to scout at all. Lack of movement and screens (ball and off ball). Is this coaching or players. I tend to think this is the scheme otherwise changes would be made.
Rotation - Lack of a set rotation. By conference play the rotation should be down to about 8 players. You get in foul trouble maybe 9 play. I believe this is why we see more turnovers than we should. Doesn't appear to be much continuity.
Tempo - Aston likes to play fast and push the ball. I like this. However, it also leads to more turnovers. Give and take.
Inbounds - Other than lack of offensive creativity this is probably my biggest concern. Maybe 2 inbounds plays. No creativity and very little movement. These are great opportunities to execute set plays.

Overall there is plenty of talent both players and coaches to make a run at a conference title and in the NCAA's. However, I think it will come down to rotation and offensive creativity. There are those that say "defense travels" and I agree. You have to be able to defend and rebound. However, in Power 5 basketball you have got to be able to take care of and SCORE THE BALL in the half court consistently. You absolutely have to be able to do this because other teams are going to score regardless of how good your defense is. UCon shot 29% and 34% from the field and Baylor played exceptional defense. UCon still scored 57 points. And,,, if you watched the game UCon had their chances until the last few minutes. On the other hand Baylor shot 43% and 33%. They executed in the half court played great defense and beat the #1 team.

I'm still surprised that they only played 6 players (ok, Moon Ursin played like 15 seconds) and still not only managed to beat UConn that way but did so while looking like the fresher team in the 4th.

Although UConn really didn't help themselves in that regard because they did not spread the workload out at all.

Collier, Samuelson, and Dangerfeld: 52 FG attempts
Walker and Williams: 16 FG attempts
Rest of team: 0 FG attempts
