Geez, Baylor was impressive. I am not sure we got anyone that can stop Sims. Her combination of quickness, strength and speed gave UConn fits. They probably got a good chance to win the Big 12.
Baylor looks good, all right. Simms is amazing, but I agreed with Doris Burke that it did not help her team that she forced so many shots rather than involving teammates, especially in the first half. Her shooting stats were awful. Must have been the pressure of playing UConn. We'd better be hitting shots when we play them, because we'll need a lot of offense (and defense).
Kim is a hoot. She used to annoy me, but over years she has grown on me and I like her sideline emotion.
Baylor was down by only 1 late in the game. Kim Mulkey is one of the best coaches in the country and absolutely the best in the Big 12. She replaces practically her entire starting lineup and barely misses a beat. Love her passion. Love her fire. Love the way she changes her strategy throughout the game. If Texas had Kim, we'd be a National Power from day one. I boy can dream....
She's a really good coach, but the deal is she's recruited kids who can shoot. That helps a lot. We've got some of those coming next year. Then we'll see.
Come one. This team has plenty good to great shooters: Chas, Brady, Krystle, Empress, Bri, Gigi. Even Imani can make make a three. TX just has an idiot coach who thinks the only job of the guards is to feed the posts, no matter what the opposing defense is doing. Whatever good shooters Aston can recruit, her offense can ruin.
I no longer wish to knock on Aston. I said my peace last year. You don't have to look farther than post game comments to know nothing is going to change the way we play. I never thought I would say this but I'd sell my soul at this point for some bad hair and plastic blazers on our end of the bench. We've had top recruits before. I'm not holding my breath. I'll gladly eat crow if it comes to that, but I suspect no crow is on the menu anytime soon.
