Baylor Mens and WBB recruiting violations

Baylor cheat? NEVER!!

Well it's not as major a violation as it may appear because I'm sure it will be phrased as two parents talking. There's a fine line they have to walk, but coaches have kids too and when those kids play sports they sit in the stands and talk to other parents we can't expect them to be mute. Is it still a violation? Absolutely, but I wouldn't say Kim went out of her way to cheat in that instance.

What was Ou's penalty for sampson's phone "mishaps"??? Of course, Sampson goes to IU, does the same thing and gets canned. IU was surprised they hired Sampson and got Sampson??????

There's another issue here, Baylor is still on probation or just off probation from the Mens BB coaches fiasco a few years ago. So, these new violations on the heels of or during a probationary period, is really not good news for Baylor and what their NCAA penalties might be. However, I do not think they will get much more from the NCAA, other than their self imposed penalties.

Interesting post from the UConn board by a poster named HelloKitty summarizing some of Mulkey's alleged behavior during the time Griner and Mulkey's daughter were teammates in AAU summer play.

Boneyard BU Discussion

From my understanding of reading the article, the talking during the AAU games was not a typical parent to parent type but a coach talking to a recruit's parent what the recruit could expect from coming to Baylor such coaching, expectations, etc. Not your typical parent and parent talk and prohibited by the NCAA. Couple that with the over 1200 excessive contacts (calls and texts between both MBB & WBB) and that's a MAJOR violation. You can't tell me that a head coach for as long as Mulkey was at the time did not knwo the rules.

Another example of the side effects of the win, win, win mentality. No room for letting the great player slip away. Can TEXAS fans learn a lesson from this?

I'm amazed that a university which suffered through the DEATH of a player at the hands of another person affiliated with their men's basketball program (former player? I can't remember)in 2003 doesn't understand the reasons there are RULES. Rules protect these vulnerable kids. I keep thinking about KM's daughter and how she must be feeling in the midst of all this. I certainly hope she has a healthy dose of her mother's style of self esteem and high self confidence.

This may be cause for concern. Echoing Plonsky's statement about integrity and doing the right thing, it might behoove Coach A to disclose any information that may be harmful to her and/or deemed inappropriate to the University. Guess this is a wait and see approach on how this situation unfolds.

Hmmm.

and reading the story, those contacts took place the summer of 2007,presumably after Karen had left for her first head coaching job. Still, it's a pretty tight timeline.

Let's err on the side of caution wth the Baylor situation, and make sure that all of our current and new Women's coaches know the rules backwards and forwards.

True, MWA, and we have much more at stake financially than the Wacoans do. If we can't win within the NCAA rules with our resources, no one can.

I remember the snit with Chatman but I didn't think it was about poaching players. I was thinking about it during the Final 4 when it seemed Kim was so much calmer than in previous years. Guess it is easier to be a little above it all when you have both Britney and Sims!

It was the tiff between Pat Summitt and Geno that was over Geno poaching.

Anyway the altercation Mulkey had with Chatman played out on tape, perhaps in after game interviews? Seems Pokey refused to engage but Kim was next to apoplectic. I haven't been able to find a clip but probably someone with greater search skills will.

^^^This.

As posted above: This situation at Baylor also speaks volumes at high volume to those posting that we shoud go [have gone] after Mulkey to replace GG.

txex86, the article you linked states that Pokey specifically said that Liebermann had been given an erroneous account about bringing up Hightower. I remember the post game interviews in which Kim ranted to the point of tears and Pokey refused to discuss it and moved on. Kim's "She hasn't earned the right to say that to me" doesn't scream recruiting dispute. At the time there were other suggestions about what it was about but I don't remember them. The visual of Kim hanging onto Pokey as Pokey tried to leave and then Kim's rant hardly needed more drama.
