The actor Christian Bale, 34, was arrested on Sunday night after his mother and sister reported him to police for an alleged assault.

His mother Jenny, 61, and sister Sharon, 40, are said to have gone to a police station in Hampshire to make the claim, which was subsequently referred to the Metropolitan police.

Bale, in London to attend the European premiere of superhero blockbuster The Dark Knight last night, was apprehended at the Dorchester hotel. The Welsh actor had been staying there when the alleged incident took place.

A Met spokesman said: "A 34-year-old man attended a London police station on Tuesday by appointment and was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault. He currently remains in custody."

Interestingly enough, Gloria Steinhem, the famed feminist, is Bale's step-mother. She was outraged when the book "American Psycho" came out so I wonder how she felt when Bale got the lead role.

An update article on msnbc says that Bale left the police station today and no charges were filed. I agree with the previous poster....sounds like mom and sis made a comotion about money, voices were raised and curse words flew....that's probably about it.
