Basketball Rules Question:

This is regarding Texas High School Basketball.

Scenario:
Offensive player receives a pass in the lane and dribbles for 2 seconds, then a defensive player cleanly knocks the ball loose. The original offensive player regains possession and is in the lane for an additional 2 seconds. Is this a 3 seconds violation?

Would it have made a difference if the offensive player had simply lost control of the ball then regained it (without defense touching it)?

The rule says it's a violation, but not many refs call it if there's lost possession and then regained possession.

Had a ref tell me since the defensive player knocked the ball loose from the offensive player in the lane, then the 3 second count was terminated. Which I knew was BS. I found a link to the NFHS rule for 3 seconds online. Thanks.

I have a question: Can a coach sub in a shooter for a TF ft's? Or does it have to be someone who was on the court at the time the TF was committed?

I'd need to look that one up, but my gut says that they can sub and come in to shoot the FTs. But they'd need to sub again to get that shooter back to the bench.
