The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that sources from three different universities claim that Anthony Davis's father was asking 6 figures for his son to commit to those universities. The University of Kentucky denies the allegation that someone paid $200,000 for Davis to pick Kentucky.

Father is a piece of scum. Then tries to blame other people from ruining his son's life? 1. I doubt their will be too much made of this until Davis is gone to the NBA. 2. It's your own damn fault for trying to sell your son like a prostitute.

If Marquise Teague can essentially admit over Facebook that he got paid by Kentucky, then I don't think this is much to worry about for that skeezbag family.

Let the rumors pile on

Dan Bernstein: "Third, the numbers work. We have all heard rumors of $250,000 being the market rate for a Chicago prep star’s commitment in the recent past, so these figures seem about right for a late-bloomer, depending on timing."

Does this mean the deal doesn't usually include a guy to take the SAT?

Davis, Sr., is going to file a lawsuit against the paper.

Good luck to Mr. Davis on that. While he may be a private citizen, the constitutional actual malice standard applies to journalists reporting about "private citizens with respect to a matter of public concern." Mr. Davis will have to show the Sun-Times knew the falsity of the report or acted in reckless disregard of whether it was false or true.

Meanwhile, the story didn't seem to say that any official from the University of Kentucky made or agreed to make any payments, just that someone paid $200,00 to get the commitment. The original story, which was edited after UK sent a letter, had originally said "sources... are also alleging the commitment cost $200,000," but there wasn't any indication there about who paid or was to pay that sum.

This will be an interesting case to watch.

This is going to sound terrible because his dad is pimping him, but at least it's his dad that will get the $ (and him indirectly). AAU coaches have been making serious $ on kids for a long time.

Davis committed to Kentucky. The lawsuit hasn't been filed, but the attorney says it will be filed next week.

Funny, that's the same thing they said the week before. Isn't this week now the same thing as next week last week, or are we in one of those tomorrow never arrives kind of scenarios?

He's a walking probation. Wonder where he bolts to next.

Calipari is to Kentucky as a hand is to a glove
I do sense he and Worldwide Wes have refined things since the days of Joe B Hall and Eddie Sutton (and, in example, Chris Mills).

SOmebody said on another board, "Whenever I read a basketball recruiting thread, I feel like I need to take a shower."

It has always been below Football and baseball for me.... Now I think it is actually starting to fall below Women's Volleyball and Softball.
