Bars/Lounges in ... (sorry!) San Francisco

This is my 4th trip to SF in 5 years an each time i go, i look to the wisdom of Hornfans to enhance my experiences. I've looked over all of the SF restaurant and sightseeing threads -- one's i've even participated in, and made sure to write down all the staples, same with hotels, and the Napa thread, since this will be my first tour there ...

But I didn't see many bar/lounge recs. There are my favorites there, but I'm taking a new shorty who is more into Jazz, wine, and champagne, whereas i'm more into Indie and PBR (although i love wine too, but beer comes first). Places like Ziegeist might have to come secondary to Bubble Lounge ... so can anyone help out with some recs ... preferably loungy/bluesy/jazz type places -- but also places with character that we CAN grab a can of the cheap stuff.

Thanks!

I am partial to the Mission and enjoy Laszlo’s (on Mission), Dalva on 16th, Hotel Utah (SOMA), The Lone Palm (22nd), Bourbon and Branch (Union Square), Slide, Toronado (Lower Haight)The Link – maybe the best beer selection in the US.

Check out the websites and let us know if you need more ideas.

I like Rasselas. Was there on a sat night to check out the Robert Steward experience and they were good. They also serve ethiopian food. Haven't eaten there so i don't know how good the food is.The Link

okay - going to be in san fran this weekend (th-sun) and was wondering about game watching options on saturday and additional bar rec's.

i saw the texas exes site that lists blue light as their bar, but i figure there have to be multiple opinions on this much like nyc.

for bar rec's, 27-28 year olds, not looking for cheeseball dance clubs. keep me out of castro. not my style.

Mrs. C-Man and I grabbed a drink or two at the bar next door to the City Lights Bookstore when we were out there with my folks two or three summers ago. A quick Google search says that bar may or may not be named The Vagabond. We went because Kerouac used to get pissed in there. It was a pretty cool two-level, all-wood bar. Very Bohemian IIRC.

Yo conozco este bar tambien.

My second trip to SF I ended up staying in the Green Tortoise Hostel around the corner from that bar on Columbus (in between several strip joints). That corner of Columbus and whatever is where China Town and North Beach (Little Italy) run into each other.

You can sit on the second floor of that bar and look at a mural on the side of the City Lights Bookstore of Keroac. (I think.) I definitely know that that alley isn't an alley, but rather a street/lane/road/drive... named for Keroac.

Another time I had coffee with my sister there. Good place, good people watching, a nice mix of locals and tourists.
