Bars around Gruene Hall?

Are there any cool bars overlooking the Guadalupe around New Braunfels and Gruene? I know the Gristlemill is right next to the Hall, but I'd like a dive that may by a ways away.

Going to see Shooter Jennings on Saturday and don't want to go straight to Gruene Hall? Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know if it's still there, but we used to go to Adobe Cafe and drink Sangritas.

There is a little beer/food shack right on the water by the tube rentals. Not sure if it's open in the winter.

That one he's talking about on the other side of the river across from Rockin R is the only "Dive" I can think of on the river. There is that BBQ place on the corner as you head down to the river. It technically looks over the river, but I don't think you can see the river because of the way it sits and the trees. There is also River Road Ice House on down River Road. It's not "on" the river, but it's a dive in close proximity with talent to see.

None of those are dives. Just tourist joints.

NB is not a "dive" town, in the manner of Houston. But, the closet dive is the Hoity Toit. Take Gruene road south under the loop and it ultimately makes a sharp left and reaches a stop sign. Don't recall what that street is, but make a right. The Hoity Toit is a couple blocks down on your right.

Its a good place to knock your self image down a few notches. That's what I use a dive for, anyway.
