Bars around campus

Yeah, lots of them: Abel's, Hole in the Wall, Trudy's, Tavern, Cloak Room, Carousel Lounge, etc.

remember when the Union had a bar? that was great. take a test and grab a beer just across the west mall. the good ole days.

TH, I remember when the union had bands and cheap beer. 240z. mugs of beer for $1.75. Yep good ole days.

Try the Texas Chili Parlor, Dog and Duck , and Mars.

Yeah, I had a class at FAC that ended at noon and a two hour break before my next one, and I'd go sit in that bar and drink beer-- used to have a good selection there-- and not make that 2pm class very often. That was before the Union went with all of the fast food chains and stuff. I think that bar is a coffee bar now. Too bad!

Carousel Lounge is probably the weirdest bar I have ever been in. I dig it, but I don't quite get the carnival/circus theme. Plus, they are always giving dance lessons to the old folks from the retirement home across the street. It's like something out of a David Lynch movie.

It's on top of the Burger Tex on Airport, right next to Leif Johnson Ford. Used to be called "Charlie's Attic."

The unioin bar was the Sh-t, but that was 20 years ago. One of the main reason I was on the 6-year plan. Nothing like the $1.75 Shiner Bock pitchers. They also used to have great music. You never really experienced the Union bar until you woke up the next day asleep on the Jester volleyball court....

Seems like everything around campus is prepackaged, franchised crap. At least the Hole in the Wall is still there.
We used to go there for the pitchers of ritas and chicken fried steak sandwiches...

I once took a class called The History of Rock and Roll. This class was held in FAC 21, and the prof. rocked. Every Friday after class, he hosted a beer bash at the Union Bar. This guy was one of the last remaining links to Austin circa 1967. I pretty sure that he was the only prof. whos hair was longer than any girl in the class.

Side bar: On the final, the guy plays some obscure Bob Dylan song and asks us to write a short essay on the deeper meaning behind it. Seeing how no one in the class could understand what the hell Bob was saying, it was a difficult question. I think he added that one just to laugh at our dumb *** answers.

Uhm, hello? McFly....TRUDY'S.......Mexican Martini, but only order one, because they cut you off after two...from anything. Unless you plan on doing the Trudy's Marathon

Yo - dude, must have been in your class, cause this is deja vu all over again. I think I took it in the fall of 85. One of the fine perks of a liberal arts education.

BTW,

Went to Austin a couple weeks back and took my daughter to campus. She's only 16 months so its time to start the indoictrination. Anyway, we went into the Union. What the hell happened - wendys and taco bell!!! The bar, they took the whole F--ing bar.... What the hell has this world come to?
