Good article. At the beginning of the season, I thought Barnes was done after this year and I am happy to have been dead wrong. Barnes is doing an amazing job and it is fun watching Texas basketball again.

At this pace, National Coach of the Year. That could be determined by what happens this coming Saturday.

I am as amazed as the next person at what Barnes has done this season, but there's a long way to go before naming anyone coach of the year. lol

With a girls practice squad member on the team he gets an A++ so far this year. I expected maybe a .500 season.

There is still time for the fickle ones to turn on Barnes, which before the season was shaping up as another Mack Brown-like lynching.

Fickle?

Check the record... This turnaround is a total shock. Even DeLoss publically stated he was worried about the basketball program. Guess he's fickle too....

Had nothing to do with being a fickle fan - it honestly did look like Barnes had lost the team completely. I'm quite that was not actually the case.

Nothing fickle about the 2012-13 starters basically laying down and looking nothing like a TEAM at all last year. Then a bunch of unexpected defections in the off-season. Those were 2 powerful signs the program was in dire straights beyond noticeable repair in the very near future. To the shock and pleasure of all of us, Barnes and the youngsters carried the torch for us in our time of darkness. And we thank them for it with our resurrected excitement and full interest. Regardless of how they finish the rest of the way, they earned my respect and active backing throughout the full season. FYI, some of us "fickle" fans were still watching the games even at the very beginning of this surprising, fun ride.

Dodds wasn't worried about the b-ball team winning or losing. His only concern was attendance and reduced revenue.

If Texas fans had continued to show up for the games despite the declinie, Dodds wouldn't have given a damn, just like he didn't give a damn when MB drove the football program down. For him, the money was the primary focus.

Barnes is doing a great job this year. Seems like we never beat KU though. If we do beat them we will be on a serious roll.

How great would a win over KU be for the next feather in the cap?

May be pushing it, but we do have home court and the drum will have a lively, full crowd. It looks to me like our guys don't understand the word intimidation. We are physical and play hard defense which gives a chance against anyone. I'm already proud of this run and won't be disappointed in our guys if we lose to a really good KU squad. By no means am I conceding anything, and I guarantee the team is coming out to give 100% and win. Let's do this!

You proved the point. Ready to fire unless winning, regardless of the reason What's he done for me lately - that is, the last game. Sounds like it might be OK to lose to KU, but none others. Back before the firing squad again. Time for Hall to go out to meddle some more.

With today's win and as we approach the half way point of conference play, it seems clear Barnes saw what had to be done after last year, and went and did it. Cant ask for more than that.

This is right up there with the way he handled the Final Four team. We might not get that far in the NCAA's, especially since we'll have a target on our backs for the rest of the season, but I seriously don't believe I've ever been as satisfied with a turnaround in Texas sports history. Winning the conference in Rick's first season was cool, but the conference was down and we lost our Round-of-64 game. The conference looks great from top to bottom (except maybe TCU). We can possibly avenge both the OU and OSU losses. Maybe we shouldn't listen to any of the hype... one game at a time seems to suit this team well.
