It's mostly praise to everyone for working hard and offers little in the way of intimations about what role each player might be asked to play, but I thought I'd post the link, not having seen it here yet. The Link
Maybe no info on specific roles, but it does give you a good idea of where the team is at. Looks like Harrison Smith will get playing time this year. It also looks like they are expecting a lot of Dexter this year.
Boy, I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that Smith will be playing based on that. But if he's putting in the work, playing defense and willing not to shoot the first time he touches the ball, maybe he will.
My guess is that Harrison Smith will be another in a long line of UT guards under Barnes who don't play much until their senior, but have us all wondering why they didn't get more playing time before after watching their timely play.
Who are the other guards that didn't play much until their senior year? Paulino played plenty (and not very well) until his senior year. Craig Winder? Fredie Williams?
I also didn't see that comment as any kind of promise that Smith will get much playing time. He might get some, particularly if he shows he can play some defense and shoot free throws, since the team has so many poor ft shooters. However, the entire q and a session was kind of like a rope a dope boxing match with the interviewer asking for information about each player's role for the upcoming season and Barnes answering with praise for the player's work ethic and expectations of improvement.
Generic Reporter: "Coach, what do you think about the development of Gary Johnson, and what role and/or position will he play on the team this year?"
Generic Barnes answer: "Gary works hard and it shows. He studies hard and practices like the ultimate team player. He watches video and corrects mistakes. He's always putting in the hours and earning his spot on this team."
