Barnes getting outcoached

This team is not ready to play. Houston has played Memphis better than UT has. So has UAB. If they can come up with strategies to contain Memphis and score on them, so should Texas.

It will suck if we lose to Memphis by more points than Tom freaking Penders did.

Typical Barnes when he goes up against a better coach...

I think its a little bit premature. Let's see the adjustments he makes in the second half. We cant play any worse that we already have, right?

Oh, come on. This is not a coaching issue. This is a talent issue. Memphis is big AND good. I think they'll beat up on KU and UCLA almost as badly. UNC, I don't know. They surprised me against Louisville.

I agree with you that he is getting out-coached but "typical" is not the right word considering he beat Calhoun and Izzo in his 2003 run to the FF.

Typical for this board... that crap is so frustrating to read. Memphis just played a good half, especially on the defensive end. We are turning the ball over and hoping bad shots fall to give us a chance. They have more size than us at about every position and they are taking advantage of it. Hopefullly we can pull this off, but Memphis will have to play a dumb half and shoot poorly and some of the bad shots we have taken will have to fall. This has little to do with coaching and a lot to do with who Memphis has on the floor. Get off your keyboard and enjoy what will hopefully be a good half for us.

Definitely not all on Barnes, Memphis definitely has the height advantage across the board. We need to make better shot selections, get AJ on track and get more points in the paint. Was a graet sign that we came back to trim the lead to 11. Is it time for Dex to play the bully again???

Yeah, I just hate it when Barnes coaches the guys to dribble to the free throw line, stop, pick up the dribble and fling the ball back to no one at the top of the key. Or when he coaches Augustin to drive in to draw contact when fouls aren't being called. Or when he coaches his guards to be 7 inches shorter than the guys they are covering. Or when he coaches James to intercept a pass going out to Abrams at the three point line and drive it in to taller defenders. Or when he coaches . . .

seriously...you're comparing random CUSA games w/Houston and UAB to an elite 8 game? Get freakin real, dude. With your logic, everyone coach that has coached against barnes this year should've crushed him because we lost to missouri. Coach barnes isn't stupidly turning it over.

Seth Davis just said there are no coaching adjustments that can be made.

Hook'em!!!

I'm not a big fan of the stuff (or lack there of) we run on offense, but Memphis is just a more talented team by a good margin. They're too big across the board.

This has nothing to do with coaching!!!! Last time i checked the coach never steped on the floor and took a shot or defended the other team.

I think they're a bad matchup for us, no question. Having said that, we're rushing shots, missing some that we normally would hit. A lot of that is just the pressure they put on you defensively and having to work that much harder on offense to get a look.
If AJ or DJ had come out unconscious from long range, maybe this one goes a different way. But you can't depend on that happening.

yeah, it kind of sucks that we depend so much on AJ hitting his 3's. usually when he doesn't, we lose. Gotta be more balanced...

granted, I didn't expect Memphis to be hitting 80% of their FT's either.

I love Barnes but I have to agree with Billy Packer, who I hate, but he's right. Barnes was outcoached. He should have had a gameplan to have DJ and Mason drive to the free throw line and kick it out for outside shots instead of having DJ try and drive to the basket so much. If we could have hits some shots early doing that might have been a different game.
