Barnes Big 12 Coach of the Year

Well deserved.

They should have waited until the Baylor game to declare just who was such a godly coach.

Barnes' teams crater at the end of almost every season and he should be replaced in the next 5 nanoseconds.

His team hasn't been worthy since he let Carmelo dominate.

5... 4... 3... 2... 1

Besides, he threw Hawk out of his first practice. Hawk never forgave him for that. Mack let Hawk attend every practice.

Peter Principle with Barnes. Texas now needs a head coach who has what it takes to perform at this level.

Syracuse with Melo won the national title in 2003.

That year the Orange lost in the semi-finals of their conference.

Boeheim didn't win coach of the year that season from his conference.

Maybe the Big 12 should have named Lon Kruger of OU since they swept Texas in the regular season. Uh, check out that *** kicking by Baylor a couple of days ago and get back (the final only looked close - like the BU-UT game it was mostly at 20-point type of game).

Tubby Smith of Tceh? Texas swept them.

Huggy Bear of WVU? Texas swept them.

The TCU coach? Texas swept them.

The ISU coach? Texas split with them.

Scott Drew of Baylor? Texas swept them and BU was so good they were top 10 at one point, then collapsed, I mean through the floor to fall completely out of the top 25 rankings. Coach of the year? Uh, no.

Self of KU? Texas split with KU. Anyone really think the starting 5 of Texas right now is in the same league, figuratively, as KU?

Ford of OSU. See Baylor as in national expectations gone off the track. The Smart fiasco. They split with Texas.

The KSU coach? Perhaps. They split with Texas.

Why not Barnes for COY? The coaches vote on this. It's what they thought. Maybe they were wrong. If they were, they likely weren't THAT far off.

Barnes deserves it this season. I think he got some lucky breaks. I doubt his expectations were any higher this season than last.

He got blamed for what happened last season even though there wasn't much he could do about the team once the season started.

He probably has learned first hand that recruiting potential one and done players is a double-edged sword. He will stay away from big egos and places like Findlay Prep. Beyond that, I doubt he has changed at all. He will ease into retirement over the next few years earning a B/B- grade as a head coach. I resigned myself to it.
