Baptists and Methodists

BYU won't and that's why they have a hard time joining a conference. Notre Dame would for the same reason that Baylor and SMU do. Just like all these schools play baseball, basketball, and other sports on Sunday.

It fills up the collection plates!

Bill, these are colleges that are somewhat funded by those churches.

They are not the churches. One in BYU goes as far as to not play athletics on Sunday. They do this because of their beliefs so they say.

There is a long check list of things that Mormons can't do. If they let go every student that violated one of those things there wouldn't be a a BYU.

Baylor and SMU are small private schools that need the revenue to pay for their athletic programs and being in a conference helps pay those bills. If that means playing on Sunday, then they are willing to do it.

If BYU gets enough money from the Mormon church to not need that revenue that a conference brings, then more power to them. Just stop whining when no conference wants you because of the Sunday non participation.

The Catholic church does help run Notre Dame, but they have never had any problem playing on Sundays. In fact Notre Dame joined a conference for sports besides football.

If you think about it, playing on Sundays does in fact fill the
"collection plates" of those schools because if they didn't they wouldn't get all that conference money.

Notre Dame had plenty of money, but they couldn't stay relevent in big time college football without playing in bowl games.

So they started participating in them again with the 1970 Cotton Bowl against none other than Texas.

Now they have a major network in NBC carrying all their home games.
