Did Sydmill Harris never play on a pro team? He never had to miss any games for us and yet I thought he had experience playing with some pro teams over in the Netherlands.

I don't know if the rule was in place when Sydmill arrived.

But this is the NCAA holding to the idea that if expenses are to be paid, it must be under the table so that we don't see it, and can claim that the athletes that make billions for us are pure amateurs.

that puts him out until mid-decemberish. that is terrible news. almost as long as GJ this year.

oh well. any idea if RB knew this would happen when he signed up? not that that really matters i guess. we need him either way.

is he redshirting this year? if not, is it possible to figure out a way to have him sit out the 10 this year? i'm sure there is not.

What a slap in the face by the NCAA. The guy misses a whole year due to injury and they make him sit out half of another because of this ****.

F the NCAA

We NEED a poiint guard. And fast. Elite level or JUCO please.

Let him get healthy and lose his redshirt year- it's more or less irrelevant. I'd be shocked if he's on campus five yeras. He's gone to go play pro hoops at some time before that I would bet. By pro- I'm not necessarily talking about the NBA

He's from a well off family. The reason he came to the states wasn't to develop his basketball skills. It was to get an education. My guess is he stays until he gets his degree, whether that's 3, 4, or 5 years.

He injured his knee after he came to campus.

The good news is, when they did the operation, they found that the damage was minimal, at least as far as these types of injuries go. One of the biggest parts of Balbay's game is his surprising athleticism, but my fears that it would be impacted by the knee injury have pretty much been alleviated, at least as far as they can be until he actually starts doing complete workouts and playing in game type situations.

The staff knew about this the whole time, so this isn't a shock. From what I understand, they were hoping to get it waived or reduced, but apparently that didn't happen.

did you know Sydmill speaks 7 languages, and his dad is a famous jazz musician in the Netherlands? fyi.

So I gather from what is being said here and what I've read before that:
A player can red shirt, then get a medical red shirt and end up playing four years and having his education paid for six years. Is that right??

If you think it is a slap in the face to Balbay to sit ten games, consider ISU freshman Lucca Staiger who was declared ineligible for the whole year this season because he played on a team where TWO of his teammates were paid, but he and the other ten players were not.

NCAA is head hunting and next SHOULD be the players from Australian Institute of Sport including Bruce, Maric, Ogilvy and others who all signed non-paid contracts to play for AIS. Even though they did not accept pay, NCAA rules mandate that a player loses amateurism by signing a contract, with or without pay, to play for a team.
