I am looking for information on public transportation from Logon into Boston. I really do not want to rent a car if I do not have to. I will be staying primarily in the downtown area for about 2 days.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There's a thing called "The T" that can get you to and from the airport.

Actually, you might have to take a shuttle from your terminal to the T stop, but it's a great way to get where you want to go on the cheap. ESPECIALLY during rush hour.

A taxi will cost you $25-30 in light traffic.

There are two "T" options. One is the Silver Line, a bus which picks up passengers at each terminal and takes you to South Station (~20 minutes), where you can transfer for free to the Red Line subway. The other option is the Blue Line subway, but you have to take the free (and fast) Massport shuttle bus from your terminal to the Blue Line's Airport station. Both options will cost you $2, and if necessary you can transfer for free to the Green Line from both lines. Check out the MBTA subway map to determine which line (red or blue) has a station closest to your hotel... The Link

Gone to Texas:

Do either of those buses on the "T" have to sit in the same traffic from the airport that I would have to sit in if I rented a car?

That is good information from Gone to Texas.

We were just there a couple of weeks ago and a taxi ride across the harbor to our hotel in the financial district (3 miles from the airport) was $20.

Take the T's Silver Line into town and then transfer at the South Station like he said.

The Silver Line bus travels in regular, mixed traffic through the Ted Williams Tunnel (under Boston Harbor) to South Boston, then it enters its own, dedicated tunnel a few stops before South Station. The Massport bus to the Airport blue line station is quite a short ride, then the train goes under the harbor.

Bottom line: if you know where you are going, you can drive downtown from the rental car lot in 10 minutes (add time to get to the lot and pick up your car). Transit takes about 30-60 minutes depending on where you are going and whether you have to transfer. Also, figure in a $3 toll plus $30+/day parking if you rent a car.
