Babies and Solid Foods

Well, for what it's worth my oldest kid didn't even eat solids regularly until he was about 15 months old. My 2nd baby started eating table food with a vengeance at about 9 months. Every kid is different - just follow their lead. Don't overthink this.

i think you are totally overthinking it..

Just go with the flow. While there are certainly instances of extreme allegric reactions to particular foods, it is pretty rare.

I feel like in this information age, you hear about one terrible incident and suddenly you feel it is prevasive.

Things/life are not any more dangerous now than it was 50 years ago. It's just 50 years ago, you were never made aware of some random incident that occured in some random small town in some random small state.

Now days, that same incident is reported on, published and read across the world, instanteously.

Well, that's just it... I'm trying not to overthink it. I've been told repeatedly... 3 day rule... 3 day rule... one at a time... etc. etc. but logic tells me, wait a minute, that doesn't always make sense to me... and my pediatrician confirmed it. I think we are on the same page.

I understand the 3 day rule is meant to apply to the greatest # of people but then you have to make adjustments based on your child.

Tomorrow he tries pureed chicken that I sauteed in olive oil. Two ingredients. No worries.

My youngest refused all baby food at 7 months. The pediatrician said her neice refused baby food at six months and not to worry about it.

A little common sense need to prevail when introducing new food. You want to limit spicy food until they are a bit older. A tad of cinnamon on apples will not hurt anything. If spicy food have you reaching for the bicarb and/or Tums, you sure do not want to give them to your baby.

The tomatoes may be a little harsh. They have a lot of natural acid that could cause a tummy upset that has nothing to do with an allergy.

My son was a fairly picky eater but I never encouraged it by make a seperate menu for him. We did eat a lot of raw veges with ranch dressing when he was a bit older and he still loves salads and most veges as a result.

We visited his grandparents one year for Christmas. She was cooking brocolli and cauliflower as part of Christmas dinner. Said child was walkiinig around the house gagging because of the smell of the cauliflower cookiing. I took him outside until she finished cooking it. He loves cauliflower now.

Yeah... our boy made some interesting faces when he tried cauliflower for the first time. We've learned to mix it with carrots or something else.

He tried mango for the first time this morning with some banana. The first spoonful elicited a "what the...!?" reaction. After that, he acted like Chris Farley playing the Gap girl on the SNL skit.
