B12 Tournament

While I was killing some time at work I was looking at our possible seeding in the tournament, and by my estimation (of the possible scenarios) the 6th seed would be the ideal position for us. Not only do we get the first round bye, we also get to avoid Baylor until what would be the conference championship game. However, we would need some assistance from our friends @ either KU or ISU to lose both games. And in the case of ISU losing both games, we would also need A&M to finish in second for us to grab that 6th seed Via the tie breaking procedures.

There are so many possible scenarios at this point because of all the teams that are so tightly bunched in the middle of the pack. We'll have a slightly clearer picture after tonight's three contests, and as everyone enters their final contest of the season.

We need the #6 slot and I think we can get it...
All we need is KU to lose tonight...

All home teams to win Mar 3 / 4...

And of course, we need to BEAT THE HELL OUTTA A&M !!!

Based on tonight's results we are now tied for 6th in the league with OSU and KS. Hard to believe we were sitting in 9th a few weeks ago. If we win vs. the Ags, we're also the 6th seed in the tourney. If not we're probably 7th.

I thought that the 6 seed got a bye and the 7 seed didn't, but could be wrong about that. I didn't see anything official but thought someone else had posted that.

Yep....we will be a 7...would rather have #6, but we played well these last 3 games!!

And, yes, no bye...we play on Wednesday....

Hopefully on Thursday, Friday AND Saturday!!!

not sure what happened, we split with osu, so whatever criteria the formula looks at after that. but it is what it is. mu has been playing some good bb lately so i don't think they would have been any easier a first rd opponent than tt. yeah, bu in rd two is tough, but if we play like we have lately, hopefully we can make a game of it.

Maybe it has to do with exactly how the big 12 applied the 3 way tiebreaker rules. Website with bracket generator raised the possible contradictions. Although the way it has been listed for weeks on the official Big12 site it looked like we had the tiebreaker over OSU.

have to blame OU for this.

We set them up for the #2 if they won and they dropped the ball.

Now, we got to beat Tech Wed. Then, we can worry about BU. Won't matter about BU if we can't beat Tech.

Go, Horns! one at a time!

I thought we had the tiebreaker over OSU also, but obviously not. Perhaps someone will post the exact rule that the conf looked at to determine seedings. And I agree with Babhorn, Tech is first. GG has been saying they're only focusing on one matchup at a time, which has obviously been working well! So let's deal with Tech and then worry about the Bears! Let's go Horns!

I printed out the Big 12 Championship Seeding and Tiebreaker procedures but cannot find the page again to link it.
The first tiebreaker for ties involving more than 2 teams is "Results of collective head-to-head competition during the regular season among the tied teams (mini round-robin)". OSU split with KU and Tx. KU beat Tx both times so round robin results are KU 3-1, OSU 2-2, and Tx 1-3. I guess those standings listed on Big 12 site during the season just had random placement for tied teams

It means we will most likely (anything's possible) not meet up with A&M again. While I would have enjoyed giving them a third loss, it is kind of nice knowing we showed them the door to the SEC and ended the rivalry on a high note. Very hard to beat a good team three times in the same season. That's my glass half full take on it anyway!

Cheers!

While a 3-0 to finish the season is commendable, the fact that Texas remains tied for 6th place is not Texas standards. The failure to win games the Longhorns should have won continues to show that desperation and "backs against the walls" are trademark staples of this program. Texas would not have to wish on other factors in determining their placement or fate. A glass half empty indeed!

I am sooo ready for the Big 12 tourny. There have been upsets all across the country in conference tourny play. I say, 'WE'RE NEXT!".

Let's beat Tech and upset BAYLOR!!! I don't know how but I say someone can figure it out! From my "glass completely full" view!! LOL!

I LOVE MARCH MADNESS!! HOOK'EM HORNS!!
