B.J. Shaver

Anybody else think that B.J. Shaver got off easy? I've always been a fan. But, after this I've lost all respect for him. Hard to respect a guy who shoots another in the face during a bar argument. According to most witnesses there was no threat directed at him.

If you've lost all respect for Billy Joe, because of this, I would guess you've never met him or Mr. Coker.

After reading the testimony and learning the "rest of the story" I think the right decision was made.

IIRC, one of the witnesses claimed to hear Billy Joe say, "Where do you want it?" right before he shot the guy. Unbelievable.

I felt the way CedarParkFan did at first, but after reading the testimony at the trial, I feel differently.
Supposedly the guy who got shot had pulled a knife, and there was bad blood between them because the guy had been married to some relative or ex of Shavers, I forget the details.
Shaver testified he thought the man was reaching for a gun.
It sounds like there was enough doubt that if you were on the jury you wouldn't have voted for a guilty verdict.
Besides, Shaver had Dick DeGuerin, the Red-Headed Stranger, and Capn Gus McCall there supporting him.
