AZ St. Game Mack and this years Mack

Havent posted in a while, but I just got to thinking about our bowl game last year.

I was so impressed with how we came out against ASU in our bowl game. Mack had everyone focused due to what I heard were some tough, nasty practice. He was all business. I doubt there was much clap, clap that week. Something in me tells me that Mack learned something that week. I hope we see alot of that this year. I hope it carries over.

With Mack's clapping, yes....there is.

All I can think about when you mention the ASU game is the rage I felt when his "son-in-law" touched the damn ball. I almost got thrown out of a bar, I was so pissed.

Well, that, and the fact that we actually played a "good" game of football that night.....something that was few and far between last year. Sure, we won games...but as we all know several were sloppy.

I personally like that UT is being ignored from many pre-season discussions and topics in the media. I am excited to see what is to come, and I actually believe we have a lot of Up-Side going into the year. Mack not clapping during bad plays and missed assignments, and instead getting more pissed off.....I would like to see that continue.

He didn't touch the ball. Not to excuse his attempt, but I'm still pissed that that call was overturned due to "conclusive evidence."

We had swagger that game. RUDY! RUDY! RUDY!! Nobody could have beaten us on that night. I hope we can keep it up.

With people who criticize Mack's clapping, I get the same feeling that I get with 9/11 truthers, or the 13% of Americans who think Obama was sworn in on a Quran. Sort of an immediate dismissal of that person's opinion.

One more time: all coaches clap. Everyone of them. I have watched games and seen them do the exact same things. I have also seen Mack get it players faces before, contrary to what some believe. If you have ever read anything about his philosophy on coaching, however, you know that his style is, for the most part, to be positive. He used to be a real screamer in his younger days, but found that ineffective.

I understand that the lead up to the Holiday Bowl was really intense, tough practices and all, and Mack was intense. That's good, and I hope and expect to see more of the same. But you can work the players hard, and be tough with them, without being a jerk. I think that's what Mack believes.

Whats a 911 truther?

We came to play that night. Mack did go off on the team after the a$m debacle and the team showed they listened. It is frustrating that we keep talking about these "learning" experiences but I also realize we can't win a NC every year either. Anyway, here's to a 12-1 season in '08.

At least it is something TO talk about. This board is stagnating this time of the year. Some dont like the opinion or the reference to the "clap, clap, clap" At least it gives some of you something to ***** at.

Yeah, people talking about the "clap, clap" is played out and overblown. Positive re-inforcement is generally the most effective motivator. Mack is a great guy and he knows what he is doing. All I was trying to get across was that sometimes people need to re-learn things and I think Mack did that week.

The ironic thing about Mack the clapper is the fact that Bob Stoops exfoliates his palms every quarter of every game I've seen him coach.

I guess people ignore the fact that he probably holds a toy noise maker patent because he throws his headset from time to time.

I would love to believe that getting his *** handed to twice running by the likes of mediocre tieams like KSU and ATM and having his team play lacklluster ball for nearly two years would inspire MB to make some significant changes, but I've heard too many tales of epiphanies and revelations to believe anything before I see it.

The man has done a great job. We are in the running every year, not so long ago it wasn't like that. Now on any given day I believe we can win. God bless Mack Brown.

I don't see how you can not say there was a mindset shift. Our defense still made mistakes, and could have executed significantly better than they did, but there is zero down that they approached that game with an attitude that had not been present all year long. They made up for their sloppiness by being so punishing and aggressive that they forced ASU's offense to be even sloppier.
