Axle Shaft

My jeep is vibrating and making a metalic rattling sound when Im braking and accelerating.

Ive had it lifted and examined by a friend who knows more about cars than I do but he could not figure it out.

I noticed a little bit of axle grease on the Axleshaft boot and wondered if it was worn and causing the problems I described above.

Does it have a driveshaft between the trans and rear end unit with u-joints? Those can make a ringing, rattly noise especially when shifting from reverse to first. And they can really vibrate when delivering power to the rear differential.

I have what is refered to as a type 3 front drive shaft (I believe). It makes some noise when I rotate it by hand. But the rattling noise Im hearing sounds like... well best description I can give would be taking a section of a metal transmission cooler line and having it rub agaisnt spokes on a bike when its spinning.

I don't know Jeeps, but obviously some rotating part is failing. It is time to go to a Jeep shop before little pieces of metal start spewing out on the ground while you are driving down MoPac. Could be axle, hub, front wheel bearing, several things.

There was a tear in the cv boot. Had that fixed and repacked with grease.

So far the metalic noise has not resurfaced but it still vibrates. Though not nearly as much as it used to.
