Avery Bradley

Won the McDonald's All American Slam Dunk Contest tonight. I was channel flipping and happened on it by accident.

I hate slam dunk contests, but wow! Avery Bradley is athletic.

He is very reminiscent of Francis in height, build, athleticism, and even overall swagger. Guy has one HELL of a presence. He's way bigger than he looks in pictures or highlight tapes, guy is a monster on TV. Simply cannot wait to see him on campus!

I suspect Jai Lucas will start next year at PG and Balbay will be coming off the bench and give 10 to 15 mins a game. Dogus needs to improve his shooting period and start taking 1000 jumpshots a day. He needs to start shooting freethrows at a 70% clip or he'll never be in the game on offense in crunch time. His game right noe paraells Doug Gottileb ex PG Okie St and now on ESPN.

yes, balbay must improve his fg shooting as well as his ft shooting if he wants to be a force. absolute must. we don't need defenses sagging off of him making the entry to the post tougher.

1. Balbay is a better shooter than what he showed last year --- just like Justin Mason is, and Connor Atchley is. Rick Barnes deserves some culpability. He ruins players' confidence. Not everyone, and not all the time, but he's done it before, and he'll do it again.

That said, Balbay is not a good shooter. That's not his strength, and it's not going to be his strength. He's just better than what he showed.

2. The need for him to be a good shooter won't be nearly as great next year. When Balbay is on the floor with Mason and Atchley, or Ward, it creates problems, because all of them had their share of shooting woes. Even when guys were playing way off Balbay, he showed the ability to blow right by them. What Balbay needs is better shooters/scorers around him. He'll have that aplenty next season.

He's an extremely good on the ball defender. He's a terrific rebounder for his position. He's fantastic at pushing the pace. He sees the floor well. He's a pass first point guard.

I watched Doug Gottlieb be highly successful at Oklahoma State with fewer attributes than what Balbay brings to the table. Obviously it helps to have a point guard who can hit the perimeter shot, but it's not necessary. Balbay needs to improve, but 90% of the battle is him getting more confidence. That's on Barnes as much as it is on Balbay. Barnes has to quit giving mixed messages to his players, because his guys played hesitantly and with uncertainty in a variety of situations --- chief among them shooting.

Of course, Avery Bradley isn't going to have an issue with any of that. He's very likely to be the leader of this team the day he steps on campus. This kid is a Rick Barnes wet dream, along the same lines as TJ Ford and PJ Tucker. He'll be the locker room leader Barnes desperately needs to be at his most effective.

Damn SLX, that is one of the most intelligent posting I have seen here and at the other site that I read.

Everyone has a IMO as it should be but your your remarks about Master Blaster(RB) are spot on and contributed to how the season went. A players is just an extention of the coach IMO.

We have not seen Dogs' best game as yet, this kid has a lot of ability that was held back by Barnes, ditto for Ward , he will get a lot of minutes next year to show his game.

My one ? that I have is if MB is going to play to the strengths of his players or try to run his sorry offense scheme. With Jordan and Avery and the rest of the team RB has many options that he can run on offense, I just do not see any team in the Dozen that will match up with us.
We can play a lock down defense, ball pressure, press and trap the whole 9 yards. On offense a dribble drive motion offense will give people nightmares when they face our team.
WE are really a legit top 5 team.

Well, that's not really true. KU will likely return Collins and probably Aldrich also. I'd put it at a near certainty that they get either Stephenson or Henry to round out their recruiting class, which is already damn good with Robinson and Johnson. Tyshawn Taylor will be a star and the Morris twin are great players as long as they don't have to be stars. We will probably beat them at home, but they'll have two guys who will compete for 1st Team All American honors, and Collins could be the national player of the year. They will be excellent next year with a lineup of Collins, Taylor, Stephenson/Henry, Morris, and Aldrich.

The competition for best in the Big 12 next year should be amazing between the top two teams, with Aggy as a pretty far behind 3rd.

I wouldn't count on Collins or Aldrich coming back. Aldrich's family is not well off and his dad has been out of work for a while. Another year of college also isn't going to help Collins grow a couple of inches.

Yeah, but it will get him an education and a degree instead of a spot on an NBDL team...people don't go to the League just for the hell of it, usually.

skymonkeyhorn,

You get as much credit for pounding that drum as me. I've seen you make similar comments --- particularly on BarkingCarnival.com --- plenty of times. You and I are of one mind on a lot of these things.

I think Collins has gotten as much out of college as he can get. He reminds me of Vinnie Johnson, at least with the football-player size. I'd be surprised if he stays, even though he looks like second-rounder at best.

It's been reported that Aldrich is coming back, but nothing since they lost to MSU that I have seen. Like kevwun says, his family could use the money, and he appears to be a lottery pick.
