Avery Bradley changing schools

I'd heard the same rumor regarding Ranier Beach. I'll be surprised if that's not where he lands, I don't care what the athletic director claims.

I don't think there are any real academic problems. Bellarmine Prep is considered a pretty exclusive school, though, so a transfer will probably help him in terms of athletic competition as well as providing a little bit easier academic environment.

What's up with incomplete thoughts as threads and thread titles? It's one of the most annoying things on hornfans.

A more informative thread title would have read: UT recruit Avery Bradley transfering high schools.

At least this one wasn't intentional. I doubt the OP thought that his post might come across as referring to Avery Johnson. Now, when a thread title is purposefully vague....

I should have included Damion James as expected attrition. No way no how does he stick around for a senior year, nor should he. Frankly, I'd consider it somewhat of a failure on the Texas coaching staff if he didn't develop enough for this coming year to be a first round draft choice, and actually, I'm anticipating him being a late lottery pick.

I still think that potential Texas team would be the top team in the country --- at the least, in the top 3, but really I'm not backing down from saying they'd be the best team in the nation on paper.

They'd have experience combined with instant impact youth, a deep front court and backcourt, playmakers, and a true point guard to lead the show. There'd be plenty to provide both an inside and outside game, guys who could take their defenders off the dribble, and the potential to have an absolutely lethal man defense at every position on the floor.

I'll talk more about it if/when Hamilton and Bradley join Williams in this class --- and I think of Williams as a key component as well. Of course, we still have an exciting 2008-9 season to look forward to, and this year's team should be very promising --- I expect them to win the Big 12 and go in to the tournament as somewhere around a #3 seed, give or take a spot, which would be a great place to launch another Sweet 16 or Elite Eight berth, and at that point anything can happen.

At this point, I don't consider the losses of Atchley, Abrams, or James as incredibly frustrating at all for the 2009-10 season. I think the puzzle pieces are potentially in place for an absolute dominating run.

I don't consider it much of a concern, relatively speaking.

Justin Mason as a senior would be a much better option as a backup point guard than virtually any other team in the country would have.

They are still recruiting Kenny Boynton, and while he's not a true PG, all the school's recruiting him are telling him he'll be developed by them as a PG.

SXL you are dead right about the team if both Hamilton and Bradley join Williams. We might just get one shot at the National Championship because Jordan and Avery Bradley have so much talent, but what a hell of a shot that will be.

Jordan and Avery can play several positions , not sure of Williams since I have seen him only play twice. Only NC wil match the depth of our team, and we will be deeper since JH and AB and others can play other positions as well.

As stated our man defense will be lock down and the potential to ovewhelm other teams is there. Nothing like good team defense no matter who you stick in there.

This year will be exciting but the 09-10 season will be about history in the making. Fun times for UT basketball.

UNC is about to lose a lot of their players to the pros. They'll have talent coming in, but it won't have the experience their current team possesses. I also wonder about their frontcourt and their overall ability to play physical.

Avery Bradley isn't really expected to be a one and done is he? I know he's a great defender with terrific length and all, but he's still a 6'3 2 guard. his length makes him play bigger, but still, 6'3 is not what the NBA looks for in high picks.

On UNC, what's the word on the draft stocks of Tyler Zeller and Ed Davis? With those guys having a year to develop prior to the arrival of the '09 class, I think they could compliment the earlycontributors (IE, the guards) from UNC's '09 class well. As could a guy like Deon Thompson if he's still around (a little undersixed for the NBA maybe?). The question with them IMO would be depth, depending on whether the 3 '09 bigs could step in and contribute some minutes at the 3/4 positions.

You might be right about how physical UNC plays with the 09 kids coming in, Zeller and Davis I believe will leave after the 09 season. I wonder if someone will take a chance on Zeller if he has a so-so year and is not aggresive on the boards but he is 7' tall. If the bigs contribute UNC will be tough and deep.
They will need some one to replace Lawson but that kid that they signed , forgot his name right now is good and has a good skill set. A PG who passes first then defends his man.
Depending on who leaves will effect how good UNC is in 09-10 season.

Bayless was always looked at as a scoring point guard. He played quite a bit of point when I watched UA last year. I don't see Bradley playing a lot of point his freshman year with Balbay in there and Mason as an experienced senior.

I'm not saying he cant be a high pick, but if he were 6'7 I'd be a lot more worried about him being one and done and a high pick.

So you use the heights of 4 NBA PG's to argue my point about saying the NBA isn't looking for 6'3 2's? Alright, you got me there.

The way I'd characterize it, is that Avery Bradley is a probable 2 year guy who may go after one year, and Jordan Hamilton is a probable 1 year guy who may end up at Texas for 2 years.

But who knows how it will play out. Other than Kevin Durant, I've rarely nailed the exact timing of when UT's early entries would actually depart while they're still in high school. There are plenty of anecdotes of players who left before it was expected, as well as some who stayed after it was thought they'd be in the NBA. There are so many factors involved, it's impossible to predict with any accuracy.

One of the things I do want to add about Avery Bradley specifically, though, is that in addition to his height, he has some hops. As athletic as Justin Mason is, Avery has a significantly better vertical leap. Russell Westbrook is a very good comparison, other than Avery is better thought of coming out of high school, while Westbrook exploded in terms of NBA potential during his time at UCLA.

I feel like Avery Bradley is a future lottery pick.

I'm holding the same sort of hopes for '09-10, but I think the vital ingredient is a big upgrade in frontcourt play (Pittman, Chapman, Hill, Wangmene, Johnson). I expect to see it, but we never can be sure.

The saga of Hamilton and Bradely has barely started but mark my words as I stated in another thread that we have not seen their best game as yet. The upside for both is sky high and they have the right mind set and work ethics to be coached by Barnes who will demand greatness from both.
Who knows if they will reach that level but its possible for them to get there.

All our bigs will continue to get better this year , anyone know where Dex is with his conditioning. Johnson will start to show how much a year on the floor will help him get better.
The other bigs will contribute as well. Hill ????
A deep team that will get better during the season for a good, maybe great tournament run .
