I am coming into Austin on Wednesday and staying through Sunday. I have a golf tournament at Circle C on Saturday and I would like to get in one or two rounds during the week.

What courses are in good shape and should look at playing?

One of my favorite thing about coming back to Austin is going out to eat. I will hit up Hut's, Dario's, Player's, Chuy's, Camino Real, Ranch 616.

Anything I am missing?

Stay away from the Austin Muni's...they are all in piss poor shape except for maybe Roy Kiser.

Great course = Falcon Head in Lakeway

And if you want a tough as **** courses that are nice try Crystal Falls in Leander and Shadow Glen in Manor.

My suggestions would be Teravista and Star Ranch. Both are great courses that are always in great condition. Star Ranch has a deal where you can pay $60 to play all day, and they throw in 2 meals on top of that. Teravista has hotter cart girls, but maybe not during the week.

Falconhead is a great course, but it's pretty far down south. I guess it depends on where you are staying, but I live in RR so it's a bit of a haul to get down there. Same goes for Wolfdancer, which I'm a big fan of, but I think they punched their greens recently.

Shadow Glen is always in perfect condition, and their rates are very good. I would beware that the course is very challenging. Some of the holes on the front 9 are just gimmicky. (split fairways, stupid hills everywhere, trees blocking greens, etc.) It's not a bad choice though if nothing else is available.

Looks like the rain chances are going to be rotten for you this coming week... 70% for tomorrow as it is.

all the muni's are in bad shape? historically, jimmy clay (not a big fan of kizer) seemed to be in great shape as long as there had been rain. is that not the case anymore?

Since this is a golf thread ... I have to post.

The game of golf to me doesn't have anything to do with whether the fairways are lush or that the greens are smooth. It's nice if they are I suppose.

I really couldn't care less whether a golf course is in good shape or not. If each hole has a tee box and a green about 400 yards away, I'll play.

Have fun. You've received some good suggestions above.

So, how did the tournament go? Where did you play to practice?

And, I hope you didn't eat barbecue and put sauce on it or eat any chili with beans.
