Austin Upscale Restaurant

Four Seasons. Make reservations. Probably $75-100 per person with wine.

Chez Zee has great food, but is more relaxed, and may not be as "upscale" as you are looking for. Probably $30-40 per.

Hudsons On The Bend. I haven't been in years, so don't know cost. They specialize in "exotic" food like buffalo, and other game.

we went to Perrys last weekend it was good.

what kind of food are you interested in and how much do you want to spend

I was going to say eddie V's as well- one bonus is happy hour every night even saturdays(5-7) in the Bar, from 5-9 on Sunday and Mondays FYI. We usually just go and have 3-4 appetizers and a couple drinks, which we enjoy more than getting stuffed to the gills at dinner honestly.

One new place I have started to check out some is Steiner Ranch Steakhouse, a beautiful property where you can see a great sunset from one patio and a long away view of downtown at night from the other. Again eating mostly appetizers, but not quite as good as Eddie V's in my humble opinon.

I like Aquarelle as well for a sit down multi-course dinner, but totally diffrent vibe.

Here's a good list of choices. I'd add Eddie V's and Trulucks to the list, too, if seafood is preferred. I love Hudson's, but it's claim to fame--exotic game dishes, is best enjoyed by carnivores. Vegetarians can get fed, but will feel like a sideshow. Dig around some more at austin360.com and you'll find their last list of ranked recommendations.

Another good resource is Rob Balon's site. His reviews tend to correlate with my own experiences and tastes pretty well.

For something a bit more casual, but still very good and a delight for vegetarians and carnivores alike, consider East Side Cafe. Also, read Rob's East Side Cafe review. Here, carnivores and vegetarians are on the same level and it's appropriate for a special meal.

I would second East Side cafe. Quite vegetarian friendly, and really excellent food in a quiet, intimate setting. Non-pretentious Austin place.

I would consider Vespaio's, Truluck's, Trattoria Lisina & the restaurant at the Four Seasons (not Shoreline, the other one).

I also love Andiamo's, but it has much better food than it has ambiance.

If you like cajun food you can't beat Gumbo's.

Near downtown.
The Link

Wife and I went there for her graduation and now we make a point to go there every single time we visit Austin.
